Tower Blocks

Post by daveyctvr »

Sorry if this has been covered before but ever since I started back in 2000 I was told that if you deliver to tower blocks and the lifts are off/broke etc then due to health and safety you are only required to walk half way up. I have 4 Tower Blocks on my delivery, 14 floors each. The other day the float covered my duty and the lifts were off in one of the tower blocks. He rang the Manager only to be told you have to deliver the mail. Walk up all flights. The old 'only half way up rule has been scrapped'.

I've never seen the old or new rule in writing anywhere. I walked (climbed) to the top a few years ago when the lift was off. I consider myself very fit and lean. I nearly had a heart attack.

Some clarification would be most welcome. :Very Happy

that is 5 kilo's max in the bag for the entire block when lifts are working. I think if the lifts are out no more than three flights of stairs or something.

It always used to be Six Floors  take it from me as someone who used to do six 21 floor blocks, I don't know if you will find it in writing :hmmmm but just ask the Dom what he expects you to do and ask him to put it in writing  if your not happy with what he tells you, say most blocks without lifts are no higher then five floors(with some exceptions) you in a good will gesture are prepared to go six but no more, if he gets funny just ask him to come out and show you how he would deliver to four 14 floor flats :arrrghhh I think he will accept the 6 :angel if not just stick in a grievance, say that you want clarification how many stairs you are expected to go up in one hit, you can also add the frame is the wrong way round(based on Hi-Low) you are doing with no lift Low-Hi, and there is no time built in the duty for you to walk up the stairs.
