Accident at work while still on probation...

I had a fall while doing deliveries,and have broken bone in my hand.
Have been signed off initially for 2 weeks till I get another X-Ray, only 4.5 months through probation period and have been told by managers that I still have to attend work daily or I don't get paid,is this correct?

I just wanted to confirm that I'm not entitled to pay after an accident at work.

Not really answering your question ....But

Ensure you fill out an ERICA for the injury you sustained at work and don't be surprised if they argue it's an incident, not an accident.

They are complete w***stains when it comes to someone having a mishap at work.

No pay - unfortunately correct. It happened in our office, even AODs are not excluded from the pay side, although they can be from the attendance procedure.

However, still contact the rep, they may be able to push something for you, its a long shot though.

What if for example your unable to do the job properly due to the break and you didn't report it to DWP at the time?
Things to consider and document

Area of accident...condition of path/weather report/hazards/hazard training/condition of footwear

Mechanism of injury....was it avoidable? Was hand used to break fall?


Basically was it your fault?

Other industries usually accept an aid is partially their fault...

Hopefully you won't suffer long term but why risk not covering yourself?

No you do not have to attend work daily as you have a GP medical certificate stating that you are unfit for work for 2 weeks awaiting to be reassessed at the end of your 2 weeks. If it looks as if your sick period is to be extended then RM with your consent can refer you to OH Assist for a telephone interview to assess your condition and where possible set up a rehabilitation programme with modified working conditions that is suitable to you in an effort for an earlier return to work.
As you are still awaiting a further x-ray to your hand then I would have expected them to wait until the result of the x-ray is confirmed before implementing the OH Assist referral.
As another poster has stated you need to ensure that this has been recorded as an AOD in the accident book and an ERICA completed this should have been done within 24 hours of the accident and a risk assessment carried out be management.
On the matter of sick pay it is contained within Royal Mail sick pay and conditions policy that RM Reserve the right to withhold sick pay if you neglect the instructions of your doctor so you need to bring their own policy to their attention.
You can also ask for the form for claiming Statutory Sick Pay

SSP was never mentioned just that I wasn't entitled to any wages if I didn't attend work at least 2hours per day.
As I only do 27.5 hours as it is and this is only source of income, I feel there is no choice but to attend. I was also told that if I didn't go off sick then there wouldn't have to be a full investigation and that would be better for the sector, can't say I understood that fully.
So 2 hours a day it is.

But you wrote you have a "fit note" from your GP stating you are unfit for work for two weeks. (is this your good or bad hand? )

Others on here can guide you further on this, but my understanding is there are ramifications for attending work when signed unfit by your GP.

If your GP had said you were fit to attend work in a limited "light duty" capacity, they would have written out a fit note stating as much.

If you do not go off sick they will class it as a non-absence accident rather than a lost time accident. This is actually incorrect. Since you have suffered a fracture it is actually a major accident and should be reported to HSE as a RIDDOR (fractures to fingers an toes are excluded)

I would suggest contacting your safety rep to ensure your accident is reported properly.

On the ERICA report it says major RIDDOR I really don't have much of an understanding of how the system works.
're which hand it's my right hand..and that is the "good" hand.

Can anyone direct me to where it states that they (RM) shouldn't have me working when signed off.

Your choice,Google or ask your doctor what can happen if you don't allow a fracture to heal properly.

As with everything it breaks down into an equation

Maybe a bit extreme but by your posting it seems as though you are be co erced back to work.

If you don't mind me asking...why waste the doctors time by getting a fit note?

You probably can work with an injury...i be done it twice myself...not in this job though and never again..last time I just bit the bullet and went skint for a while until I healed properly.

Your choice and stay safe..you know you're not covered if you cause further injury whilst ignoring fit note etc?
