AMAZON BULK TRIAL

Further to LTB 531/14 it was confirmed by Royal Mail on Friday 22nd of August 2014 that the proposed Bulk Trial was not due to go ahead on Monday the 25th and this enabled talks to continue.

In these talks the company has provided new information and further clarity on the need for a strategic response and the overall commercial opportunities that may be gained via the trial.

Our engagement has also enabled a far deeper reflection on the issues of product & revenue retention and growth, balanced with stronger proactive activity to drive new products and services to protect and grow both the up and down stream activity.

Against that backdrop, a trial terms of reference has been agreed which responds to all our concerns and provides the platform for genuine joint activity on the short, medium and long term future of the business.

This trial will only affect PRDC, SWDC, Greenford MC, Jubilee MC and Cardiff MC, and will only have a minimal impact on current arrangements.

For commercial confidentiality reasons the detailed terms of reference for the trial can not be published, however we can confirm the salient points are as follows;

Ensures full CWU involvement at all levels.

Creates a genuine commitment to the ambition of our down and up stream operation and how we can develop and grow our end to end products & services.

Ensures agreement on the duration of the trial, and what happens when the trials concluded.

That the success criteria will be agreed and jointly evaluated.

That the trial will be limited in respect customer scope.

That the business remains committed to the RDC network.

That pace will be injected into the Network future ambitions agreement.

In conclusion we are now satisfied that having had a far more detailed discussion with the company, the agreed terms of reference reflect a far more balanced approach and a genuine mutual interest solution.

Announcements that may materially affect the share price (in a downward or upward way), have to be communicated to ALL shareholders simultaneously, wherever possible. This is why companies often make announcements to the London Stock Exchange outside normal trading hours, such as Tesco's profit warning today.

If price-sensitive information were to be given to a select few shareholders, they could use that knowledge to sell / buy shares before the market reacted, gaining a profit. This was what was once called 'insider trading'.

The rules are very different, now that RM is a listed company
