Holiday whilst off sick

Hi I wonder if anyone has any advice. My wife booked a holiday which was not in my holiday time. I didn't think much of it as I've never had a problem swapping holidays with people. Just after I went off sick and am not yet back at work. The holiday has crept up and is in two weeks. Obviously I havnt been there to swap with anyone and my doctors note goes beyond the holiday. I'm now concerned that I will be told not to go as I didn't have it officially booked ?

Tricky one... some would say if you're fit to go on holiday you are fit to come to work... on the other hand depends what you're off sick for... a week away could do you the world of good... either way you will have to run it by your DIM... if he/she agrees then happy days... but if I was a gambling man I would say that scenario is odds against...

Doubt it I'm off with stress mainly due to the constant pressure he puts on me which then started affecting an illness I've got already :(

Sorry to hear that mate... I would say a few days away is exactly what you need... speak to your doctor... I'm sure he'll agree that's just what you need... your doctor can write to your DIM in support of your case... can't see how the business can argue with that...

This has already been discussed in a previous posting.
Firstly the guidelines in the attendance procedure state that you have to remain in contact with your office while off sick and dependant on your medical condition you may be asked to attend for interview giving them an update in your condition and how best they can assist you in an earlier return to work.
You will have to inform your DOM that you are intending to go on holiday while still off sick and as previously mentioned your condition of work related stress it will be beneficial for you to have a holiday and get a letter from your GP to this effect.
However DOM may try to manoeuvre you to coming off sick when commencing your holiday and on your return commence your sick absence to avoid having to credit you with your leave allocation so beware.
Hopefully the letter from your GP will allow you take holiday as you still have an active medical certificate running.

If your off work with stress, contact your doctor tell you feel that taking a break would be of benifit to yourself. It does not mean you shall be better when you get back and if you feel the holiday never worked then claim back your leave.
