Full timers only Paid 6 Hours to come in for overtime

In our area we are only being paid 6 hours if we come in on overtime.

The rounds are prepped and we are only paid for doing the delivery.

Just wondered if this is nationwide or just the our area.

Then why are you even getting out of bed for only 6 hours.

I see it as you are doing management a favour so 8 hours seems fair

if they do not like it, they can take it out themselves

6 hours pay for a delivery that will take maximum of 4.30 hours or less in most cases is a very good deal. A 32-hour posties will prep the lot and get about 6.30 hours (average) a day or less for a tuesday

I'll rather stay a little bit longer in bed for someone else to prep the walk and I just come in bag up and deliver - on my day off.

The thing is that working one's day off will now become even more competitive - with hours paid going down and posties fighting for the opportunity. With a reduction in SA/OT for late afternoon collections, there will be fewer opportunities for OT for many delivery posties esp the picky ones.

6 hours will soon looked at in a nostalgic way and like someone said they are already paid 5 hours for a 4-hour job - still good IMO. Our managers tend to bring in the 20+ hours posties for day off and try to absorb the indoor work or do the prepping themselves. Before people start saying LM should not be prepping - the LM role will be greatly reduced in future with many of them laid-off, moved sideways as supervisors or PHGs or demoted.

6 hours to deliver a fully prepped walk. Erm what's the problem then? Isn't that a good deal?

I guess its the old supply/demand equation.

If more people want overtime than walks that need covering they will pay less.

If there are more walks that need covering than people wanting the overtime they will have to pay more.

A couple of weeks of everyone saying no and they will quickly start offering more. Of course, to get everyone saying no to overtime is never going to happen - something that management know.

I know when I have had a manager ask me to do extra on top of my walk I say, "depends on what you're offering me". The offer normally goes up when he cant find anyone else to do it!

Would rather enjoy my day off, rest the body,do something great with you're time off. We fought for a 5 day week for long enough . Everyone's got diff circumstances etc granted tho.

With less sa/overtime available due to earlier collection times, Doms will know people are desperate for money so will offer less for people to work their day off.

The casuals and Angard and in effect all the same as any casuals are supplied by Angard no matter what type of RM office

Yes! But why are you so particular about the 6 hours or 8 hours (FT) on your day off? Do you feel that you are being underpaid? 6 hours for 4+ hours job?

6 hours is plenty enough as an additional wage on your day off. To say, you will not get out of bed for 6 hours is insulting to those that have to work for less in RM and many outside RM that has to work for only 3 hours a day or less for some cleaners (and they still travel to work)

When I have tried to work at my local Mail Centre at the busy Christmas periods on certain days, all they ever offer me is 4 hours and it takes more than 1 hour round trip. I have accepted the offer or rejected the offer depending on how I feel.

But talk of OT ban and make some much fuss is cutting off our nose to spite our face: things will get much tougher from here on!
