part time to full time

Post by razzz89 »

hi
our office has just had a partial resign and two of us are part time and put in for and got a full time round..
our dom is refusing to make us up to full time saying rm is not making any one else up to full time .
can any one advise on where we stand on this please ?
also can they change the round to suit our contracted hours in which case can we refuse the round on the grounds its not what we put in for as the round has changed
any advise would be gratefully received
thanks

Unfortunately, it is now becoming more common for RM or an office not to honour the post as advertised if they do not get the right candidates.

Having said the above, if the posts are full time posts and they were filled with full time posties then there should be more FT posts available???

Like I said, it is now the thing for them to do. We had posts that became available after Revision changed from FT to PT; so no chance of even applying for FT posts despite FT members leaving or reducing hours. They have also done the same for 30+ hours, they refuse to make folks up from 27 to 32 hours.

What can be done? Sorry, I have no idea; also it was a partial resign. I suppose you can refuse the jobs and go back to your previous if the post you applied for was not the one that was offered...

In the current climate even if your DOM was your best buddy in favour of making your hours up, he/she would almost certainly be over-ruled.
They can and do change the duties to fit the business needs so they will modify them to fit your contracted hours. You should have checked before applying!
It may seem reasonable to you to refuse the duty but the DOM may not see it that way. Sound him/her out if you've changed your mind and want to revert back.

the job I went for was advertised as full time so surely they cant change the job to suit the candidate ?
if a full time person had got it they wouldnt change it so surely that is then predjudice ...? I have today found out my union rep has taken it to disagreement saying that there is a national agreement that any one part time who picks and gets a full time duty should be made up to full time..
I don't know if this is correct I await the outcome...
in our office we have lots of full time and part time duties we are currently short 10 people and another retiring on fri but they are not being replaced instead the rounds are being lapsed ...from what I can make out it looks as tho they are splitting all the full time jobs to part time but of course this would then surely leave us even more people short.... which in turn will give us even more lapsing .
and wouldn't it have made sense to do the resign after they have changed the duties not before or is this royal mails normal logic

This would have been a vacant duty resign as 5% of the overall duties in the resourcing unit have been vacant or reserve temporary cover for 6 months.
These duties were advertised and available to all applicants FT or PT and available to the most senior person ( extract below)
These duties would have been flagged up at the resourcing meeting and any contentions or changes to these duties would have to be discussed between management and union before advertisement not after advertisement.
These duties having been advertised within the unit in which 2 persons on PT contracts have been allocated 2 FT duties because there are no other applicants more senior have applied.
These duties should have never been advertised if there was no intention by management to honour the duties irrespective of who the applicants are and subsequently a disagreement would have been lodged.
RM policy continually insists that employees will be given every opportunity to improve their working conditions.
Unless you and your other PT colleague may have disciplinary or high absenteeism on your records which may be a reason for DOM's refusal to accept you both as FT but these should have been stated within the duty advertisement.
Ways of Working Section 14: Vacant duties are available to FT and PT employees.
You will have to inform your union rep of your DOM's refusal to increase your hours and for both of you to commence a 2nd stage grievance procedure to have the matter investigated.

neither me or the other applicant has any absenteeism or disciplinary on our records as I said in the last post our union rep has taken it to disagreement so we are awaiting the out come. he seems to think we will win but others don't. every one is asking for the resign to be done again as they are not happy we have got full time duties when our contracts are part time
so we wait with baited breath
