Staying on Floating and no resign
What is a reasonable time stay floating i started over 7 yrs ago and have been floating since i started (except 1st 4 weeks on same walk) i used to train people up and they have stayed on same walk since they have been there ,also since revision 18 months ago people who have less service than me have been given own walk dom says he needs me floating because i am flexible and others are not! We have had no resign as we have different doms all the time and they never have time to do this, i have asked to go on my own walk as we have just had a ft guy leave and he says no you are too valuable to go on same walk every day,if we are all getting paid the same why is everyone not treated the same, i also have to change when regulars work days off i then have to do spare walk for that day, i am fed up and rep says its doms decision who does what , what is the official way of allocating walks and can i take this further as i am more senior to several people who stay on same walks?

Re: Staying on Floating and no resign
You seem to have surrendered your position too easily at the revision conducted 18 months ago by your willingness to be flexible which has back fired on you and which your DOM has taken advantage of. Your Dom decision to deny you the right based on your seniority for signing for your pick at the walks is indirect discrimination. You should begin the individual grievance procedure if the mediators have not kicked in under the AFG&S agreement and require an explanation why you have been side-kicked as others with less seniority which is the main basis for duty signing have been allocated their own walks to your detriment. If as you stated that your rep has said " its doms decision who does what" and knowing your circumstances which you have posted then your union rep is in the wrong job.mlw wrote:What is a reasonable time stay floating i started over 7 yrs ago and have been floating since i started (except 1st 4 weeks on same walk) i used to train people up and they have stayed on same walk since they have been there ,also since revision 18 months ago people who have less service than me have been given own walk dom says he needs me floating because i am flexible and others are not! Re: Staying on Floating and no resign
Funny enough, I had a conversation with someone the other day about something similar. We have a few walks with people off on long term sick/ left and not yet filled. Its not the most senior reserve put on them, and the decent people are left floating. The guy I spoke to said he thinks its because some people are too valuable to management to have on 1 walk. I am starting to wonder what the point of doing a good job is - sometimes if you make mistakes etc you get a better deal!

Re: Staying on Floating and no resign
Read page 28 of the 'Way Forward Agreement' which can be found on the CWU website. The exact criteria for a resign is detailed there. Any major change that affects over a third of the duties in your office will trigger a resign. After that any duties that become vacant will be staffed by the senior reserve for 6 months when it should be advertised and filled by the most senior applicant
