Dear Colleague,

CWUYouth and the Crisis Square Mile Run – PLEASE SPONSOR US

You will be aware that CWUYouth has a special relationship with Crisis, the charity that particularly supports single homeless people in the UK.

As part of the work we do, and the support we give, for Crisis, two teams from CWUYouth is participating in the annual Crisis Square Mile Relay Race.

This is a relay run through the streets of the City of London on the evening of Thursday, 5th June 2014. The aim is to raise funds for the very necessary and vital work that Crisis does. (http://www.crisis.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

If every member of the CWU aged 30 and under gave just £1, this would equate to nearly £20,000 for this extremely worthy cause. It would also demonstrate the generosity and effectiveness of CWUYouth as a fundraising partner, but also as an organisation that other people would want to do business with.

We are therefore asking all Branches to try and secure sponsorship that at least matches the number of young members in their own branch. Donations can be made on the dedicated CWUYouth/Crisis fundraising page:

Alternatively donations and cash can be collected which, in discussion, with branch treasurers/financial secretaries can be converted into one block donation through the Everydayhero page or by sending a cheque made out to Crisis, but sent to my department at CWU head office. We can then collate all the cheques received in this way and forward them onto Crisis.

It is also not too late for additional runners to register their interest and indeed if we could secure a further team of four attracting sponsorship under the overall CWUYouth umbrella, this would be most welcome.

If anyone is interested in finding out more about the possibility of running they need to contact my office but to do so as a matter of some priority.

Part of the rationale for CWUYouth’s support for Crisis is to give our young members (and others) the opportunity to campaign on a common issue, but in a variety of different ways. Generating support for this initiative is one such strand within that.

For all of the above reasons, I hope that you will able to work others in your branch to make a contribution to this initiative and I thank you in anticipation for your support.
