Indoor performance testing ??
hi we had a park an loop revision last august,,,,and the indoor backless fitting and porters / sorters about a year ago.
the p & l is up and down,,,some days you can complete other days you cant.
anyway on to my question....
the d.o.m has started to do indoor testing,,,it consists of timing you to prep your walk/walks,,,timing you on d2d prep and the parcel prep,,,and finally tieing up and bagging it all....so timing you whilst you indoors
he comes up with a time and tells you if you've passed?? based on the traffic....
it`ll be my turn soon and was wandering if its right.
our rep is involved so alls seems above board
were guessing he using it as somekind of stick to beat the slow preppers with....any thoughts

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
No, no and no! The only indoor test your rep should be taking part in is the 1 minute test on prep, we recognise nothing else. He should not be using IWT to test performance, and it sounds like he is.centenaryman wrote:hi we had a park an loop revision last august,,,,and the indoor backless fitting and porters / sorters about a year ago.

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
I would say your DOM can test whatever he likes.
What he can't do is conduct you for "failing" the test.
If the tests threw up obvious problems which were resolved in "our" favour would the previous posters refuse as they were the result of "illegal" testing?

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
i would not say test what you want to your dom as what he is doing is clear harassment & intimidation of staff. He is using iwt as a personal performance tool when it is only an office "guide". In my office i would advice anyone who was feeling stressed or harassed to put a grievance inclashcityrocker wrote:I would say your DOM can test whatever he likes.

How do you know if your office "guide" is accurate without testing people?halfull wrote:i would not say test what you want to your dom as what he is doing is clear harassment & intimidation of staff. He is using iwt as a personal performance tool when it is only an office "guide".
As Clash says it depends on the approach and objectives of management.
If they call it an individual test and attempt any kind of counselling/conduct if you "fail" it then yes I would make a noise.
If they simply shuffle off back to the office with the figures then it's their time they are utilising/wasting.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
what? its clear if you read the 1st post that the word "passed" clearly states this is being used as a test of the peoples performance in that office & you cannot fail indoor prep, there is no such thing, only a one min prep rest on an empty frame with no accuracy check.fishtank wrote:How do you know if your office "guide" is accurate without testing people?halfull wrote:i would not say test what you want to your dom as what he is doing is clear harassment & intimidation of staff. This kind of thing is used to scare staff they are not working quick enough so they will panic, rush & work over or come in early for free. It could make weak individuals feel intimidated, stressed, bullied even fearful of their job.
If they were doing it to take some off the jobs then ok but can you please explain how they can do that without testing the walk outdoors aswell as he states they are only testing indoor performance which is a sure sign of pressure on the workers to work faster & get out on the street to complete the walk.

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
halfull - how is your blood pressure?
The only thing that matters is what happens to those that "fail".
The starting point for the IWT is the office traffic.
Would it be wrong to check that?

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
my blood pressure is fine how is yours? no its not the only thing that matters, protecting weaker members matters to me also & im sure some people in that office are feeling stressed, and harassed. How many times have you been timed on everything you do indoors then told if you have passed or failed when none of this is nationally agreed?clashcityrocker wrote:halfull - how is your blood pressure?

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
It also says the rep is fully involved.
So either the rep is complicit in the harassment of the weaker members of his DO or he has a different agenda which involves protecting them.
However as you are "sure" you know what is going on, perhaps you should take over as the rep in that office?
Perhaps you should leave that rep alone to get on with his job and you should try and get the 50% of your colleagues in your DO who aren't union members to join up.
It might just be a better use of your time and energy.

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
We had exactly the same done to us. Watched each person, then calculated how many items per minute we did. That is worked out from ips to out of the office, to deliver. We all failed as we as we were only doing about 6 items per minute(they have strange ideas) Told had to do a lot better
Reason have a failed revision and tried these tactics. We took no notice, having said we are having the planner back
Such fun.

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
As far as I know those times he is quoting can only be used to support and provide additional training for those who are not up to the required office speed. As previously said they cannot be used for any form of conduct coding. I would have thought that if the office in general is working below the agreed bsi then the manager does have a right to find out where the problem is. What would be worrying and would amount to intimidation is if the only people in the office being tested are those that work to their contracted hours.

Re: Indoor performance testing ??
Officially, I can see why people say managers are only testing people for guidance, and that there should be no reasonable fear of conduct code/disciplinary for those who fail.
On the other hand, you can guarantee that managers up and down the country DO use these tactics solely to intimidate staff, particularly those who cut off or claim "too much" overtime. Naive to think otherwise, or that members won't be worried about it.
