Non Voters

The result will be out in the next few days and by all accounts the turnout will be poor which going by previous agreements will lead to a great deal of abuse being thrown at the non-voters.

Before you do though consider this..

You have an agreement placed before you that the union endorses completely, It contains elements that might protect your job in the short term and a decent pay rise, You don't want to vote NO because you have little faith in the union being able or even willing to negotiate a better deal and there is really no plan B but...you work in delivery and feel let down, You can see the flaws in the protections and know for certain that the delivery reviews will lead to nothing, You're not prepared to vote YES to a no-strike deal and an agreement that does nothing for delivery members.

You hate the agreement but don't believe there will be anything better on offer so to be honest the only "sensible" option left for a lot of members might have been to throw the ballot paper in the bin. It's great this democracy thing.

I think if there had been a third option entitled "I grudgingly accept this agreement under protest but when it all goes wrong I reserve the right to punch you in the face" it might have seen a 100% turnout.

The more non voters there are then I can see it being more favourable to a NO vote, mainly because the people that disagree with the agreement are more likely to use their vote, I have. That's the impression I get asking people in our office as well, the ones only interested in the money have not even voted and the ones that see beneath the surface have used their NO vote.

This will be the first agreement that I have not voted in, I just can't be bothered.
Now that RM & the CWU are in league with one another, whats the point ?
Lets face facts, the CWU has stopped fighting RM and have instead joined with them to manage the transformation into a private company
Its NOT about the members, it's about the profits and an non confrontational approach to RM
Throw money at the members and they'll agree to anything !
Joint statement anyone ?
