Has nobody thought of the Consequences of a "no" vote?

Post by stephen500 »

I think we all need to understand a "no" vote does not mean that the Union would seek or obtain a "yes " vote for industrial action to improve our claim.
Royal Mail could either simply take the deal off the table, or impose it as they have done in the past.
Deliveries will be focused on by the outdoor department.
There is no better deal out there, 3% is a good deal. pay protection is good, pension enhancements for direct scheme is good.
Vote "yes" for what we have, not what we will prob not obtain.
3% now, pays our electric and gas bills and feeds our children.
Money is what I work for. As for delivery issues they will be dealt with.
As you can guess it's a "yes" from me.

its no surprise people in mail centers will vote yes as you have the easiest jobs in the royal mail, the only way this deal will affect you is you will get a pay rise. I love the way you said "delivery issues will be dealt with" i almost spat my coffee out! Can you please tell us all how these issues will be dealt with because this new deal certainly does not tell us how these issues will be dealt with, maybe you could email your answer to moya & dave!

I totally agree.
It would appear this new agreement is directed at the mail centers and sod the poor DO and SPDO.

But then again, I fail to understand why management would want to make life difficult for us now that RM have share holders to keep happy. The last thing RM need now is more problems within delivery offices.

Easy is probably the wrong term to use though I think there are many OPGs in processing that would not be able to cope with being a delivery OPG. I also believe that it would be better if there was a grading system that reflected role responsibilities better with each category undergoing job evaluation and the development of pay scales that better rewarded the responsibility and arduous nature of some jobs. I appreciate that allowances are used to reward certain aspects of a job or attendance but where there a diverse range of jobs is it appropriate to have them covered by a single grade?

So whats different about this deal and BT2010. Deliveries issues were going to be addressed in forums and working groups. What changed - nothing.

There is nothing different in the promises of BT 2010 and AFG2014 so why should be more confident that there will be a change. When you kick things into the long grass its gets lost. At least with a no vote it may concentrate minds and actually get something done.

Mail Centres V Delivery
Royal Mail have delivered what they set out to achieve and that is dissent between the functions. CWU have played into their hands by not carrying out what the Consultative Ballot agreed, and that is an agreement within the agreement that protects delivery staff against overworkloads, bullying and harassment, and dignity and respect in the workplace.

Have you thought about the consequences for the union if there is a yes vote and the delivery issues are not addressed?

All that is thought about is the money, even though more than likely folk will be on here next year complaining about what a s**t deal it was.... only to be met by some folk saying "well you voted it in"

i currently drive a 7,5ton lorry for royal mail, but i haven't always done that i have been in delivery and processing also, more recently delivery and can fully understand why some delivery guys are tempted to vote no. They get shafted from pillar to post. But this deal based on purely money is a good deal, and trust other work place issues will get resolved. If we reject this, whats the alternative?? No other industry are being offered a pay deal anything near as as good as this one. Lets put it this way i applied to drive a 7.5 ton lorry for the plumbing delivery firm Wolseley and got offered £6.80 an hour little over 14k a year!! We'd be mad to reject this deal. Or we could very well end up on something like minimum wage.

It's not about the money, the delivery side should have been sorted out before being sent out for us to vote on, the CWU should have a good hard look at themselves for putting that deal out there.

Now, I still think the agreement will get voted in because there are too many people who only look at the money and don't think about the long term and the damage longer and longer deliveries are causing us.

i agree delivery is a total shambles ,work load un acceptable as for door to doors the scourge of every delivery postie. Part of the reason i jumped ship to the first specialist post. Do think we have too be narrow minded when it comes to the pay deal vote yes then suck it and see, Not just delivery thats being shafted. I've heard Eddie Stobart is after some Distribution centres etc. We could all be in for a rough ride,But if it were a yes vote and we had to leave somewhere down the line at least we would be leaving on our current terms and conditions with a semi decent package, not as it could be a statutory pay off.
