Traffic figures are higher. model week
Our traffic figures are higher than the model week, should we not be taking additional mail out as well as our own deliveries?

I think the question is:chrisj wrote:Please try and explain. Some of us do not understand. Cheers
If traffic is above model week, should they still be lapsing?
The answer is no.
The model week is agreed as part of your revision process to determine your staffing levels.
If traffic is below model week, you might have lapsing opportunities.
If traffic is above model week, you should be flexing up (bringing in extra resources)
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Traffic figures are higher. model week
Have you ever known a DIM to say traffic is above model week???? Think they base a "model" week on traffic figures from mid December. Our office has a duty as lapsed for the whole of next week already, they must have a chystal ball

Re: Traffic figures are higher. model week
so it should have been 'should we be taking additional mail as well as our deliveries'?...should we not be taking additional mail out as well as our own deliveries?
It is about lapsing when your traffic is higher but does not really matter if there is time within contractual hours? Just being a devil's advocate and that is perhaps why their manager wants them to lapse.
The other thing is that the model week might now been too low and not so relevant to reality

Re: Traffic figures are higher. model week
Our line manager made the decision to lapse about 8am on Friday when it became apparent that a second box of Mech was not coming and not that much mail. This was despite the management (DOM/LM) saying that lapsing shall only be on Mon, Tues and Sat.
Most people just murmured and grumble a bit but the a few took things further by moaning about starting early and doing door-to-door prior to start and not taking breaks.
The LM who is a bit of runt and a d*ick just kept answering that nobody asked them to come in early or do d2ds b4 or not take breaks.
He reminded them that we should be leaving the office around 9.50am or so to satisfy the delivery time and contractual time. Moan, moan moan but we all lapsed and still finished on or before time. So why come in early???

Re: Traffic figures are higher. model week
'Yes' - vote No as this resourcing to workload is going to finish off a load of posties: they just do not want to give us a chance to breathe; they want us to work every second but not ready to be flexible when it is the other way round.
There will be be serious fatigue problems in delivery as the delivery gets longer and we get less chance to take advantage of low traffic to recuperate. But as this does not affect some units or branches like London, they and the CWU do not care - but they go further by calling people weak and denying there is any problem whatsoever.

Re: Traffic figures are higher. model week
Thanks. Sorry, if i didn't explain properly. Our dom has recently started putting up traffic figures. We have never seen them before but many weeks show traffic is above what i now no is called the model week. I thought the dom should not push us to take extra if traffic is above. But he does. Can he keep doing this every day?

Re: Traffic figures are higher. model week
your rep should be having a weekly resourcing meeting with the dom at that meeting if the mail is forecast to be above model week, the rep should be insisting that any absence should be covered on overtime, if dom is insisting on lapsing then the rep should be lodging a stage one disagreement and following the correct IR guidlinesShe Raa wrote:Thanks. sorry but how is voting no going to improve the situation with regarding lapsing of duties and resourcing to workload???chrisj wrote:'Yes' - vote No as this resourcing to workload is going to finish off a load of posties: they just do not want to give us a chance to breathe; they want us to work every second but not ready to be flexible when it is the other way round.

it was not even the last agreement but the one before it that we agreed to it, both parties agreed to utilising all working hours and the members voted to accept it, its already been agreed to by us
i know catagorically that there are offices in scotland that are struggling because of a high ep figure 105+ these offices agreed to this figure even after LTBs came out telling reps and members they did not need to anything over 100, they still did it and now are moaning that other places ie london have it easy, sorry if they had done what they had been advised then they wouldnt be in the situation they are now

Re: Traffic figures are higher. model week
I never had problems with lapsing when workload was low and the time was there to do it, the problem was the rep and DOM didn't do resource meetings, so it was just them duties will be lapsed 48 weeks a year come what may, if you didn't have time lapse first then we will see what happens, as if that made any difference, in fact i quite liked my lapsing, and now i'm outside RM i quite often do things that i was not employed to do, if there is no driving to be done.

Re: Traffic figures are higher. model week
So what has model week traffic figures got to do with anything or resource meeting if the actual traffic is low and there is time within contractual hours... you folks that seems to know it all tend to contradict yourselves... Working every hour is all well and good in a MC but it is not that linear in delivery.
We might have signed off an agreement that says we should work all hours that we are paid but is that the case nationwide especially in offices that have low BSI rate or EPs and in offices that might be overstaffed?
All these talks about office agreeing to high BSI rate is convenient to blame the offices or Reps - but the reality is that you or I are not totally privy to the circumstances that has led to offices having the sort of revision that they have. And there are lots of offices in that circumstance - so unless you have investigated all of them and being there, you should stop trotting the same things...
Why vote No. It is because of the reasons I have said. It does not matter what was agreed even before 2010, even Bob Gibson has acknowledge that lapsing is an issue.
