NEED SATURDAY OFF

in 5 weeks time i want to go to a sporting event my brother has bought tickets as it is a big birthday for me , so i asked dom for sat off he says no chance short staffed i tried to change day off but i can not as no-one can do , so i asked dom if i could leave at about 1130 and pay someone 2 do last 2 loops their is someone who might be able to do it he says that i need to work my whole shift! why can i not do this if i pay someone? can he demand i stay , i think he is being awkward as i have a few issues with him just wandered if he can really stop me from giving someone else money to finish my walk and what advice anyone can give on how to get round this!

I think you will find that somewhere , hopefully someone will give you a link to it, is the statement that you can get someone to cover you as long as theres no cost to the business, which as you state there will not be. sounds like your DOM is being a dick

Thanks but if i pay someone and they go over their contracted hrs is it still ok?

Yep you are right he is , i will put it too him and get rep involved if need be i mean it is not as if i have done this before and attendance record is good i just think he has it in for me and a few others as we are starting to cut off due to lapsing being too much and also lack of sorters in office! thanks for advice

This suggestion is exactly why we get problems from dims when off sick genuinely, it's a bad suggestion you should ignore it

use it or lose it.we dont get any thanks for going a few years without going sick,so dont be such a jobby and use what you are entitled to.My dom wouldnt hesitate to put me on a stage if i went one day over what i should , regardless if its genuine or not.

so even if you have a perfect sick record and you request a day off, they say no, then you go sick anyway for 1 day, they can dismiss you?

So say you really need a day off what is the best way about getting it off. i.e. unpaid leave ?

In reality it's very difficult for a manager to conduct anyone over the attendance procedure because they are two separate agreements which should only cross paths in exceptional circumstances.

The business is technically allowed to withhold pay if they have genuine evidence that you were not sick but in practice this is obviously very difficult to prove.

Of course your manager will know that you were taking the piss and this will not be forgotten so be prepared to have any future requests for special leave or exceptional days or any request at all turned down with a big fat grin on his face.

I think this is more to do with mlw's previous disputes with management... He or she is being vindictive especially with the issue of privately paying someone to do your round...

I do not see what the problem is whatsoever with your proposed private arrangement. The only thing I can think of is the issue of returning undeliverable big packets that will not go through the slot.

Going off sick is too risky considering that you have already asked for a 'leave' to go to a sporting event. What if it emerged later that you were at that event? It is not impossible!

The best thing to do is still sort it out privately with a discreet reliable postman that will not blab about it, and you keep things really quiet from now till that time... GL.

PS* We do not have such a problem in my office but I have done a number of this private deals. One just after Christmas from a bloke that was flushed with Xmas tips and wanted to go and watch his Premier league team...
