Protection? Or no protection?

Post by stephen500 »

I have read a reasonable amount of the agreement so far.
Lot's of pluses, but yes some bad points.
RM as you will know can end protections if
1) The Universal service ends
2) We take national official industrial action.

However this needs to be balanced with the fact, that at the moment we MAY have no legal protection at all?
Or do we have legal protection? based on our existing contracts?
In signing this "legal protection" document, does this improve our existing contracts or are we better off with our current ones?
As for MTSF.
There is a extended review date, but this is not protected.
My head goes with my gut feeling that we have no real legal protection at present, but I am still unsure if this improves our position.

2.7.8 The review due in October 2013 of the changes to the Managing the Surplus Framework terms referred to in paragraph 2.3 of the Job Security, Resourcing and Managing Change Agreement has been undertaken, the current terms have now been further extended and the next review will be in January 2015. In undertaking this review, the terms of the Managing the Surplus Framework shall not be subject to the legally binding undertaking in paragraph 2.6.
To me this reads that our current redundancy terms under MSTF are seriously under threat and NOT protected. Could give the employer carte blanche to make people redundant (as always happens once a public service is privatised) on the cheap come January 2015? That in itself I do not like at all and will influence my vote accordingly. Unless someone has a better explanation ?
