How much power does a phg have exactly because in our office he virtually runs the show although the dom is useless so no surprise is he supposed to sort all duties and tell us who does walks and is he responsible for ot ie do we need to see him before we are allowed to claim he seems to think he is the main man and is pissing us all off do i should i see him about working ot and should he be deciding who does ot (his mates!)?

I've no idea where a locker guy would get the idea he has any power nor why he would want it. I run our locker and make absolutely sure the managers take responsibility for everything they're paid for in the same way I take responsibility for any cock ups I make...............not that I ever make any of course

I questioned our Dom about the name PHG he did admit it didn't exist but said it was still a specialist post. Ours covers the Dom's day off but no one takes any notice of him anyway.

The resourcing for the unit should have been set by the DOM, the list posted and any changes necessary cleared with him. If the guy who sees to the locker gets a leadership allowance he can and is obliged to direct staff to cover any shortfall. The only sanction he has is to report the incident to the DOM and providing there was a reasonable alternative to changing the position; the DOM will either back him (most likely) or you.

ok thanx he keeps changing me and i think this is wrong as i am floater and when regulars work day off he makes me change i think this is wrong and keep arguing about it not sure if i can force the issue but i change enough as it is so think he is being unreasonable

There is a world of difference between Leadership and Management, one is done by charismatic people with the welfare of their staff at heart and encouraging them to excel their standard to raise the bar and the other is usually by megalomaniac control freaks and staff are all expendable cannon fodder.
