Should acting managers be doing opg overtime?

Post by mandelsons_toenail »

A query has came in from a member.

An acting manager is doing opg overtime,

Ie working days off, sa overtime and ips overtime.

It's alleged that this same manager is the one allocating overtime also.

This sounds very corrupt to me.

So the question is, should this individual be doing opg overtime, whilst coining in management rates?

I personally think it stinks

I think there are various grades of managers: from DSM., DOMS, Line managers and some sort of under-manager (non-substantive line manager), etc.

We have an ex-postie/sort of reserve manager-type that comes back to our office from time to time to help cover for a Manager's annual leave or absence. Sometimes, he is asked to come in, to essentially do a walk and he gets paid overtime.

However, I do not think our DOM and the Line manager gets OT.

DOMS and Line managers only get TOIL, an acting manager will get OT at normal postie rates not at manager rates

as long as the OT is spread out fairly then i see no problems, but if the acting manager is not dishing it out fairly then get onto your rep

Managers do get overtime below DM2 grade , they are grades that are allowed overtime or toil ,DM2 and above only get toil except in exceptional circumstances

thats correct though only whilst being paid as acting manager, so in the morning cant do OPG work, but could do a scheduled attendance after his shift finishes as at that point is no longer getting paid as acting manager

yes as he is only an acting manager at end of day and still a postie when he is not recieving acting manager pay, and as i said earlier if he is abusing the position like unfairly distributing the OT to his advantage then the rep should take him to task

i would say that whilst they are employed as an acting manager they cannot do blue collar work if a blue collar worker is available to do it.
None of this, they can at another part of the day crap. They are employed for the week/month/year as a manager.
If they don't earn enough as a manager, tough.
Managers cannot do OPG grade work whilst employed as a manger. Do not accept anything less.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

They are still an OPG grade, hence they can do OT
