it is funny that people who do not know anything want to slag either the union or Billy and Dave off.

For the record Billy has not and will not be invoked in the negotations in the same way he was not part of the talks on pay and mod or BT2010.

For the record Royal Mail will not provide a further extension and if there is no deal by Wednesday then there will be action. So without an agreement it will be 27th. In the lead up to the busiest time of the year.

dingo your about the only one that speaks with calm and sense on here.The majority come across like the fellas in my office ,they call for strikes yet come in early rush around and dont take breaks.It seems we are close to a deal so let them finalise it , im sure once the deal has been announced most will accuse the union of selling them out and getting a crap deal anyway.Maybe 1 or 2 should have a think about what the job would be like without the unions input.

It's always the same in any dispute people show no patience,lets wait till next week before the moaning starts.

In any set of negotiations you have to make a judgement do you get more concessions from the employer based on the threat of the strike or actually going on strike.

In this case thus far the CWU have got a number of significant concessions from the threat of a strike. Royal Mail have made these concessions in the Hope that they can resolve the dispute and not lose the contracts which they believe they will lose if the CWU serve notice of a strike and actually take strike action.

Now this is the first legally binding proposed agreement and it is extremely complex as under the shareholders law the company has to consult its shareholders management board. This is not a quick. Process regardless of whether we are taking strike action or not.

On deliveries we have made progress on the future and some issues around bullying but on resource to demand we are still some way apart , talks resume Sunday.

Now do I think we will get as many striking as we would have if we had taken the action on the 4th. Well I can only speak for the area I cover and the answer is yes and the Comms we have put out and the meetings we have heard the members understand that without them losing a second of pay thus far they have got some major concessions and if we cannot get a deal then the next course is strike action whatever form that may apply.

If members in your office or others now don't support the strike then clearly they were not aware of what the union is fighting for.

It'll be an eye opener to see exactly what these concessions are and if they go anyway to address the problems in deliveries. What we do not want is a rehash of BT2010 and the "interim agreement" where the "details" would be worked on after the yes vote, which I might add did NOT result in the deal of the century unless it was the BAD deal of the century. I mean if BT2010 was evaluated thus by some, exactly how much credence can we put on the "concessions" that are supposedly made.

Well I can only speak for the area I cover and the answer is yes.

But the area you cover has the most to lose.
For those areas that have been through the revision process and extended their delivery spans, for those areas that already have a high percentage of part time staff and for those areas that have been living/working under "the capacity plan" (as resourcing to workload was called) for the past 4 years it no longer matters.

I always wondered why they were so eager to enter into the "Deal of the Century" then I realised that 3 and a half years down the line they still haven't modernised.
