Royal Mail - Trial of New Jallatte Jalbrave JJN13 Safety Boots For Drivers with Hybrid Retractable Spike System (Snow/Ice) Traction Sole Composite Toe Cap & Midsole

This is an update report further to LTB 914/12.

As previously reported CWU/HQ agreed to support a Trial of new type Safety Boots with a Hybrid Retractable Spike System (Snow/Ice) Traction Sole for Drivers, the "Jallatte, Jalbrave JJN13" model. This follows on from the agreed introduction of 'Spikys' anti-slip protection snow & ice 'over-shoes, in order to help reduce and prevent slip accidents for Delivery Staff in adverse weather conditions of snow and Ice. Royal Mail Uniform have concluded that the "Jallatte, Jalbrave JJN13" Royal Mail Uniform spiked boot for drivers failed the trial. Royal Mail were intending to work with the supplier to make the changes necessary for the footwear to pass Royal Mail's stringent testing but unfortunately JAL the manufacturer have gone into administration.

Subsequently, Royal Mail state that there appears to be nothing currently on the market suitable for drivers for use in adverse weather conditions as an alternative but a market search is underway and Royal Mail will refer back to us should anything come to light.

Further developments on this matter will be reported in due course.
