Voluntary Redundancy?

I was asked a while ago of my thoughts on the privitisation of RM, I answered him with a question of my own "Whats in it for me?" Yes I know...free shares...oh and that "peace of mind" the 3 year legally binding agreement, but after 34 years service I would be interested in Voluntary redundancy. It seems that many businesses, after privitisation offer redundancy packages. So, what I want to know is....could RM offer that to me, a postman who has already thought that the future of RM could be quite different from now and is currently training for a new profession....so now maybe you can see why I asked "Whats in it for me?"

I doubt they would pay v.r, ,they would save the money and cull the workforce in other ways.

The CWU are fighting to preserve/improve our terms and conditions including the MTSF agreement. Reduction in severance pay is high on the list of issues that will be dealt with under the new regime.

It is very likely that RM will try to reduce the terms under which redundancy (whether voluntary or compulsory) is paid. They are not going to pay out just because people don't like the drastic changes that are heading our way. They would rather staff resigned at zero cost to the business.

Where an office or mc is closing , they will have to shed some jobs somewhere and we've been surveyed how many of us want it and to apply for your figures, but it is not guaranteed , they just want to catch you out and sack you or stress you til you leave, sorry.

Well, yeah, pretty much what I was expecting. I suppose no company wants to lash out on redundancy if there are cheaper options. Psst...don't tell RM but I'd actually go quite cheaply!!
