" WORK TO RULE " ... HIT THEM HARD !!
After getting the result we all wanted even though the turnout was disappointing in my eyes( the people who didn't vote are normally the ones with the biggest gobs ) I find it hard there is hardly ever any mention of " Work to Rule " in the topics I`ve read about industrial action. I know through experience when we had a situation at work and we did a 24hour no O/T ban at our office, the office fell on it`s arse and the management were begging us to cease the ban and the dispute got resolved immediately, basically we all know majority of units are run on O/T and if a ban was in place this would hit them hard.
who's more the fool, the fool , or the fool that follows the fool ?

Along with a boycott on delivering DSA, an Overtime Ban is also being balloted for the next stage if no progress is made before 28 October.knackeredjointsRUS wrote:After getting the result we all wanted even though the turnout was disappointing in my eyes( the people who didn't vote are normally the ones with the biggest gobs ) I find it hard there is hardly ever any mention of " Work to Rule " in the topics I`ve read about industrial action. Although I agree with boycott of DSA, I need some overtime to survive (only work 16 hours).TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Along with a boycott on delivering DSA, an Overtime Ban is also being balloted for the next stage if no progress is made before 28 October.knackeredjointsRUS wrote:After getting the result we all wanted even though the turnout was disappointing in my eyes( the people who didn't vote are normally the ones with the biggest gobs ) I find it hard there is hardly ever any mention of " Work to Rule " in the topics I`ve read about industrial action. Wouldn't it have made more sense, & waste less time if we'd have been jointly balloted at the same time for this in the first place, if the union knew this is what they had in the pipeline? Just seems like incompetence to me again.

Apparently there has to be a separate ballot for action short of strike action. Had the union put both ballots out at the same time, then the voting for strike action may have been tempered or even lost. This way we have a yes vote for strike action and probably will get an even better turn out for the ballot for action short of strike. This places far more pressure on management to reach agreement.

Work to Rule is a very effective tool to use against the management we used it for two weeks and the Office collapsed under the strain, we should have kept it up in my opinion, as to part timers perhaps a way round this is that they can work docket up to 39 hours of their total working week and then no more OT after that, I understand the predicament PT have in their low wage and hours. if we all level on that the Office has a good chance of being solid everyone on 39 hours of work and no more.

NO SAs only ad hoc OT to take you up to 39 hours, obviously there needs to be sanctions if they flout that sanctions such as Union representation (and protection) withdrawn and of course universal dislike by the rest of the Office, any part timer better take note not to abuse this.

Overtime ban for a week, no working your days off, still get the £300 offered by Royal Mail for not striking, and we all get a weeks wage so no one has lost any money.
See what happens...... We all know offices are run on overtime
Striking on a Monday - yeah great idea....

After 8am Monday - DO fulltimers in before 8, p/t after on strike.
MC Late shift out, Night shift out.
Before 8am Tuesday - DO F/t out, p/t in.
MC early shift out.
Done correctly, with good timings a Monday is a good start.

I've said it before, some would rather sell their granny, than not come in early and rush around, so work to rule won't work.

a work to rule is a waste of time. we should be anyway and i can think of a fistful who see this as something other will do on their behalf.

Re: " WORK TO RULE " ... HIT THEM HARD !!
I think 'action short of strike' is a good idea, if we interpret it properly. forgive me if I'm mistaken, but while we're refusing overtime etc, I feel we should operate at less than our optimum efficiency. It's kind of dragging your heels, but I'm sure it could be effective.
Am I making a mistake in this approach? Are there any other methods that might be worthwhile to demonstrate our poor morale?
