I know of at least one person who didn't receive a ballot paper and one who said he forgot. They both intended to vote yes, one never got the chance and one forgot. Even general elections get a piss poor turnout but in a democracy you have to live with the result. The result is a large majority in favour, nothing else matters.

But some probably are not convinced by the Union and did not want to give RM a stronger* hand...

For example, you had the Union banging on about Privatisation and putting that fact in 2 ballots yet Dave was up on TV now telling us that what we balloted for was clear and not about privatisation.

The Union have not been straightforward or clear in my opinion.

I am sure, can't be bothered will have been one of the reasons.

Simple calculations is this right. 115000-43000=72000 now workforce of 150000-72000=78000
That means only 72000 want strike and 78000 don't want strikes. This will be spun by the management

I means that 56,339 voted Yes and 15,624 voted No.
Anything else is just pure supposition and guesswork.

We do - because the possible disengagement of a sizeable number of union members is not good news.

All those who come on here with their "what's the Union done for me?" are the ones who probably failed to turn up. It's shame that these people don't realise that the Union's strength is in their membership. When you fail to vote or vote no then you are handing over that strength to the employer.
Even if I didn't agree with the leadership I would always vote in their favour simply because of this. At the end of the day if and when strikes come there is nothing to stop you from working even if you registered a Yes vote.

I Think it would have been a lot higher if the cwu had acted a lot earlier...I know by speaking to some colleagues that as soon as they found out we were getting privatised they thought game over

Maybe because they think a deal has been done already........three weeks before a strike ! Come on if there was to be an impact the strike would be next week.........look forward to hearing an historic deal has been agreed with CWU and Royal Mail before the 4th November.......ten year deal will never happen , five years more likely ......if its seven well didn't wardy and co do well.
