Where do we stand regarding overtime between strike days?

Post by She Raa »

After reading other posts in the £300 topic, I did start to think, where do we stand regarding overtime between strike days? Can they treat us differently for striking?

No they shouldn't. But on overtime after a strike there are as many different opinions as there are Post(wo)men and there will probably be no official guidance from the CWU.

It is inevitable that people who have been financially battered by striking will take overtime opportunities to make good what they have lost, especially if they are in a "fragile" position with money. Sadly many who don't strike and grab any overtime going as a habit will be first considered for any extra earning opportunities, thereby making a killing at strikers expense.

Can't you do some overtime now and build up some reserves?

I've been saving for the strike days since the ballot was announced, if we don't go out it will be a bonus :)

Around our way there is no OT allowed between strikes (except SA) as this is seen as rewarding us for striking

that's fair if nobody is being allocated ot but not if they or rewarding strike breakers with it.

In our office the day after the strike managers come round and tell you no overtime is to be claimed but EXPECT mail to be cleared ,then when you don't shift the backlog they hound you THAT YOUR PREP ISNT UP TO STANDARD .After about 4 days they tell you to clear it on overtime ,that's when I smile and tell them im not working over my time when it suits them it cracks them up :cuppa

But if it means the difference being that the member doesn't strike because they simply cannot afford to do so, then I'd encourage any member in such a situation to take overtime to fund their strike days... obviously doing the job correctly :)
