UNION MEETINGS..WHERE HAVE THEY GONE ??

Can someone please tell me where have the union meetings we used to have on a weekly basis gone, I remember when I first started we used to have 15mins every Tuesday just to let us know what's going on in the business and to keep us up to date with office affairs. Currently ( well the last few years ) there is absolutely no communication what so ever between our rep and us..... I heard RM have banned union meetings in 'their time' is this true ?

We have been told that because the CWU are in dispute with RM that we cannot have workplace meetings, so we now all go out at breaktime when there is anything relevant to discuss and have the meeting outside the gate - not good for our public image but a nice breath of fresh air and bawdy humour.

we had one a couple of weeks ago 8 people turned up out of an office of over 100
what makes it worse was we had it before or shift started and there was staff boxing in their duties before there time.

When we were all told not to go on strike in the wtl why was there not a view point from the other side like a rep putting forward the yes vote . Was pretty annoyed this did not happen.

I'm not a Rep, but I ALWAYS have my own view point, which is why I'm so popular with Management

Don't be intimidated by Management, they are more worried than any of us realise, after all, they're the incompetent ones, therefore, first to get shafted! I've actually bought them all a small tin of Vaseline for Xmas

Many years ago PO would allow us to have our meetings in the building out of hours ,but now they wont let you .The reason being in a nutshell is to disrupt the union in all ways ,they know you would have to hire a building to have your meetings and there is no grants from union to help you with this ( I think ?).2 The workforce (not all ) who moan and groan about bullying/lapsing etc yet if you did have a meeting CANT BE BOTHERED to turn up ,then after a meeting these guys come upto you and ask you what was said at meeting

I agree with some of your points, however I think you will find a lot of the Unions meetings are at weekends, when many (not all) have children, maybe weddings to attend, etc, so not always easy to attend.

Would the Union be able to do an on-line meeting via Skype or something similar? Just a thought, which is probably not an option, any other ideas?

Yes there is genuine reasons for not been able to go to a meeting and I respect that , but ask any union rep sometimes its like p------ in the wind ,people moan and groan about for instance lapsing yet if union rep says don't do this and don't do that (coming in early etc) they wont listen . Personally I think you should have a union meeting once a month talk about problems and get them sorted .You find in some offices union reps agree with managers on things but don't tell the members ,to me the union / members are so disjointed ,ill informed that Doms get away with murder

Good points again, monthly meetings could be sent via email to members in form of a survey, titles for separate issues, separate functions, thus getting relevant up to date feed back from us all?

Totally hear what your saying about being disjointed, but that also occurs in Management, the only difference there is, they think they are above the law, so to speak, I think they are beginning to hear the roosters calling as they come home to Roost

There has been a problem with the union for some considerable time. It's been like a marriage where one partner takes the other for granted, pays no attention to the others needs and fails to communicate. A rep cannot really think that he is supported at ground level when senior officers with full time release fail to engage the rank and file and the policies flip flop depending on the whims of the employer/union relationship.
