NEw duty
On a new duty , that you have never been shown how to tie down ( which is important for bundles in HCT duties) loops.
Is it acceptable for a manager to expect you to finish this duty at the same time anyone else would .
Is there not some kind of common knowledge for doing a new duty for the first time that they might end up needing overtime? And is commonly pre arranged
Wouldnt you say when you try a duty for the first time it takes u slightly longer until yo are up to speed?
Sum one is being Refusing overtime payments because "they did not inform a manager they might go over time" but they had never done the duty before

Re: NEw duty
well if they did not inform the manager before they went out that they might not complete then they have sorta shot themselves in the foot, its the postmans duty to inform the DOM as soon as he knows he wont complete, and this is supposed to be done before he leaves the office, now if he is on an unfamiliar duty and has taken him a lot longer than usual to tie it up he should have known then he may not complete and informed the DOMveronihilverius wrote:On a new duty , that you have never been shown how to tie down ( which is important for bundles in HCT duties) loops.

Re: NEw duty
How are you supposed to know how long it will take if he has never done the duty before? Thats an impossible prediction therefore a slight chance there may be overtime involved?.
Are you trying to say people who go over and haven't arranged overtime don't get paid? That is a common thing i thought considering they expect 30 minute flexability

Re: NEw duty
its not that impossible, and its not a case of saying to manager you will definately be over its a simple case of saying you might go over what do you want me to doveronihilverius wrote:How are you supposed to know how long it will take if he has never done the duty before? im not saying people who go over and havent arranged dont get paid, but you are giving the manager ammunition to refuse if you dont follow the correct and agreed cut off procedures

Re: NEw duty
Sorry but i dont accept your answer " its not that impossible" the fact is there is no way of knowing if u might or might not and if you do go over your time then i dont see how that that postman must have to work for free to complete by the manager saying he wont pay for his overtime - just because they made an error in judgement . Agreement or no agreement that is just pathetic and no one should have to work for free just because they are on a new duty that they are not familiar with.
Then if its the case hes made an error in judgment because he did not know the duty and knowing the manager will not pay overtime and is therefore working for free.. he is well within his rights to come back to the office with the mail still to be delivered inform a manager or phg and then go home .. because no one should have to work for free under these circumstances. end of

The overrunning deliveries procedure has nothing to do with paying overtime.

Re: NEw duty
didnt say it did, simply that if he had followed that procedure he would have been paid, fishtank wrote:zx135 wrote:you are giving the manager ammunition to refuse if you dont follow the correct and agreed cut off procedures

i am saying he should be paid but if you dont follow the procedures and dont inform the manager that he is not going to get done on time and simply turns up next day and says i was 2 hours over, the manager justifiably has cause to question, he might have had some one in office who could have completed the duty and not had to pay any over time, but by not even speaking to manager abnout it or following the over running delivery procedures all im saying is manager does have cause to question paying the over time, otherwise anyone who wanted a little extra ot could just hang out and then come in next day and say i was an hour over yesterday

Re: NEw duty
So what your saying is they should just work for free because of these rules .. or return to the office with the mail because they wont be paid for doing the extended work?

Re: NEw duty
no i am saying he should have contacted his manager at the earliest opportunity to say he could not finish and ask what he wanted him to doveronihilverius wrote:So what your saying is they should just work for free because of these rules .. or return to the office with the mail because they wont be paid for doing the extended work?

Re: NEw duty
And what if they dont have anyway of contacting a manager and didnt realise they would be late back until it was to late , i guess the earliest opportunity would be when they return to the office ?Regardless if its nearer the end of the duty .

Re: NEw duty
if they had no means of contacting someone in an emergency they should have highlighted the fact as a health and saftey issue, veronihilverius wrote:right ok and if they had no PDA and there are no phone box's?zx135 wrote:the could have used their PDA or reversed the charges in a phone boxveronihilverius wrote:And what if they dont have anyway of contacting a manager and didnt realise they would be late back until it was to late , i guess the earliest opportunity would be when they return to the office ?Regardless if its nearer the end of the duty .
whats the actual issue? you just dont seem to want to accept this person did not follow correct procedures yes manager should be paying his ot but by not following the correct written down procedures he is leaving himself open for questioning on it
