HCT pouch weight matrx

Please. is there a pouch weight matrix for HCT use, All the loops on our HCT rounds are big and 16kg is normal for most of the pouches. Managers weigh HCTs and the odd pouch but say nothing about reducing pouch weights. Thanks.

you do not use a pouch on a hct duty,weight off shoulders , its not rocket science

I am on a hct duty the hct is not to be used as a bag drop there is plenty of info on this site that will give you the facts on how long you are allowed to leave your trolley unattended and it certainly isnt long enough to deliver a 16kg bag of mail

Have to agree with eddieb, get caught doing it and your job is at risk. There will be no excuses, you have to do the job properly in the situation were working under. Hct's are not meant to be used as a bag drop.

No one should be carrying bags, and if your manager is saying you can then he is wrong.

Accident on duty whilst carrying a bag will be classed as own fault. Someone in our office fell foul of that!

well our town centre duty is a hct duty, and it IS used as a bag drop which management know full well about. the trolley is wheeled out to a main shopping street just off the high st. it is chained to the metal railings, and the postie uses an 8kg pouch and does the duty in a loop system, taking him back to the trolley on completion of each bag. the whole town centre is under cctv and there are hundreds of people walking past it all the time it is chained up. it is a main thoroughfare so it is not under threat. the full duty takes about 4 and a half hours.

under normal circumstances HCT's do not use a loop system, this is normally done by CDV (park&loop) having said that who planned a revision doing loops on a HCT duty? weight is supposed to be taken OFF the shoulder NOT put on, the only agreed BAG MATRIX is 1 bag of 16kg and all others 11kg, hope this helps but I don't think so

Pouch Weights
Royal Mail and the CWU have reached agreement for the national introduction of a new simplified pouch weight safety standard which will be rolled out across the country as part of WRAP. A new system of a 16Kg maximum first pouch followed by 11kg maximum weight for all subsequent pouches replaces the old sliding scale 'Pouch Weight Matrix' of 16k, 16k, 12k, 10k, 10k, 8k etc which was difficult to manage and regularly breached. The new Pouch Weights along with much improved compliance and auditing processes will reduce the risk of injury to Delivery Staff. This has been Conference Policy for years and I'm pleased we've at last got there. Along with the new Pouch Weights Health and Safety Standard SMS2A2, a new compliance process of pouch weight sampling checks, record sheets and auditing is being introduced. Apart from the new 16Kg/11Kg standard each Delivery Round must be subjected to a Walk Risk Assessment under the WRAP system. Where there's steep terrain encountered or lots of stairs, pouch weights can be reduced to manage the musculoskeletal injury risks to 8Kg or 5Kg. Reductions can also be made due to an individual's capability following risk assessment. Also the 16Kg pouch doesn't have to be the first one on the walk if the risk assessment recommends otherwise. A full detailed report has been issued in a separate Letters to Branches.

Been on a couple of HCT walks, untrained, and both times I was told to use the HCT as a mobile bag box by Dom and Lino. There's even a sheet with where to lock up the trolley and which bundles to take.
