What to do when flexible working comes in?

Post by Bloke7 »

So, on Wednesday, if they let us back in, what do we do, who do we ask in the union about flexible working?

Will I be expected just to do 2 hours on the end of my duty? And cut that off another bit of the weeks duty?

Will they force us to take all the mail out? And will the national agreements just be run right over?

Not a place I'll want to work if that comes in.

This idea of flexible working, like most things, may well look good on paper, but in our delivery office the line manager
has enough trouble covering a couple of dutys,to suggest we all turn up and he'll work it all out on the day,is ludicrous.
i for one will believe it when i see it!

EXACTLY. Work your hours and there's nothing they can do about it.
They can't force you to work overtime.

My understanding is the annual and flexi working isn't coming in till next year? could be well wrong - the annualized and monthly pay are next April it would make little sense in trying to enforce a system that has yet to be put into place.

If you are expected to carry out any flexibility with regards to your duty - ask for it in writing & document it. And flag it to your Union Rep. Also ask for the date the EX Action is taking place - I thought it was the moving of the hours on DO's and the Network 07 that they were imposing as the law on the 56mph comes into effect in the new year and they wanted to implement it before the law as they explained at our place to "bed in".

I am keeping everything crossed that something comes out of headquarters with regards to this, and I check every day for any up dates.

The flexible working is mainly going to affect those on duties that finish 2 or 3 hours early every day and there are not that many of those left anyway.

Just come in on time and take your break and don't come back and clock out 2 hours early and there is f**k all that they can do about it.

The 6 int 5 during the summer months will not work either as I hardly noticed a drop off in the work at all.

When the screws get sick of taking the cut offs out they will employ people on a mop up shift from 12-5 to clear the cut offs or they will be forced to bring in more walks.

They will not carry on using casuals for long as they cost too much and f**k up the work.

One problem I foresee is that they will make you bank your hours and you will have to take them when they say so but it is up to the individual to put their foot down and say you will not work beyond your time. This is a bully's charter.
