Dear Colleagues


The TUC are organising a National March and Rally at this years Conservative Party Conference, to be held on Sunday the 29th September 2013 the theme behind the event is to tell the government and indeed the country to “SAVE OUR NHS” “Defend Jobs and Services” and to say “No to Austerity”


Defending the NHS is something that we in the CWU fully support. From our own experiences, defending jobs and services is crucial to ensuring that decent well paid jobs are saved and that this in itself opposes this Governments austerity measures.


So, supporters of the National Health Service and all those who want to defend jobs, services and a decent welfare state need to be marching in Manchester to deliver a clear message to the Conservative Party Conference that we mean to Save Our NHS from cuts and privatisation.


The march and rally, originally called by the North West TUC, backed by unions and NHS campaign groups will be assembling at Liverpool Road (M3 4FP) from 11am, and marching to a rally in Whitworth Park. The CWU will have a speaker at the final rally and we are urging all Branches to make arrangements to be in attendance at this event.


It gives us the opportunity to get across our own anti-privatisation message as part of our “Save our Royal Mail” campaign.


The protest will highlight the impact of huge job losses and spending cuts across the health service, as well as the rapid sell-off of the most lucrative parts of the NHS to private healthcare companies - many of whom like Circle are also Conservative Party donors.


These arguments around the NHS are almost identical to the arguments we are facing up to in our own fight against Royal Mail privatisation, so supporting the event and using it as part of our own campaign fits together nicely.


The event will also be used as a focal point to raise concerns about the wider effect that government economic policies are having upon communities across the UK.
Coaches to Manchester are being laid on by groups around the country, with many places subsidised or free. We are already aware that The People’s Assembly are organising a train from London. We'll be listing them in a further LTB when we get more details.


In the meantime the purpose of this email is to highlight this event as far as possible in advance in order that Branches can start to make arrangements to ensure a great turnout from the CWU. This will show our solidarity with the NHS and the Unions concerned as well as giving more profile to our own cause.

Total waste of time, this government will ignore any protest from the TUC or any other organisation, they were elected by the people for the people, the rally will create an unesassary footprint to the environment .

Roughly 22% of those on the electoral role voted conservative or 35% of a 64% turnout.So yeah the party of the people.
