Holiday booking procedures

Hi

Can someone please let me know what the correct procedure is for booking holidays as a postman.

I was asked last August to choose my holidays for this year. I chose April, August and October. I went in yesterday only to be told this was my week holiday. I told them that I had booked the first week in August off, but how do either of us prove this??? Should I have signed a form or should the manager have asked me to fill in something?????

I have gone in as normal today as I have a holiday in Greece booked for the first week of August.!!

There are probably as many different procedures for booking holidays as there are delivery offices.

If you have picked dates, it should then be confirmed that those dates are available.
We have a big board with who is on holiday what week.
It doesn't leave any room for confusion.

If you pick dates and those weeks are oversubscribed, then you should have been told and allowed to pick other dates.

I sometimes wonder if we actually work in the communications industry.

we had same issue in our do. previous dom made a hash of dates on the system although he had confirmed them. result was new dom came in and we had more off than should have been. just had to get help from other do's and lapse. if you had booked them on the holiday sheet then the sheet should still be available if it has not been lost. take you filled in a sheet. if you speak nicely to dom and explain then he can give you time off and use lapsing which is what lapsing was for after all. I don't think at least one of the guys had his hol confirmed but last dom had made such a hash new dom was told he had been confirmed. he believed it due to way do had been left. if dom cannot disprove go with it and say you had been told you could have august off. can dom disprove? get rep involved.

It should be possible to get a print out of your leave from the People System Portal (PSP).
Employees are entitled to access information about themselves from PSP on request to their line manager.

The whole holiday saga in delivery offices is disgusting
I've never known anything like it were not allowed mid week to mid week so if you want to go abroad you can't unless you get a sat evening flight it's disgusting

Hi, if you had/have an agreement, verbally or otherwise then that's a contract.

If they (RM Management) are no longer able to accomodate you then I would raise a grievance, followed up by Employment Tribunal proceedings (you do not need to be in a Trade Union to do this !) where if he or she (the manager) lies under oath they''ll be a dirty lying bastard... and tribunals do not look kindly on this However please be advised... no-one in RM is ever accountable for anything and grievances just get passed up the chain of command. It's time some of our undereducated, subserviant D.O. Managers grew a backbone and some bollocks and stood up for what they believe in !
I am of the opinion that there are some good managers out there. It's time they took charge of there offices and threw a bit of caution to the wind. Undereducated managers... I believe that's the problem... Good Luck.

Thing is, I know when my dates were, but oddly my name has been 'tipexed' out and another name written over it!!!!!!!!!

When you book leave, or change existing leave, have the manager print out the plan off the PSP system and keep it for your records, then you can prove it. And it isn't your problem.
