Union Rep working as DOM support....

Within our local sector, there is a small office where the union rep does the DOM's work on a day to day basis as DOM support, because the DOM manages 2 offices within the sector.

I have a couple of questions: (answers on a postcard)

1. Where does this union rep stand if it comes to a strike at anytime ?
2. Should the union rep be working as a manager ? (isn't this like sitting on the fence ?)

1. On the picket line.
2. He isn't, you said he is working as DOM support which if I understand correctly is still a CWU grade.

Slightly off topic but we once had an area rep who had a meeting on the shop floor to say we should vote for the 2010 deal as a great deal. One week later, he was an acting manager at another office.

Should the union rep be working as a manager ?

Dom Support involves admin work only,If he's doing a proper acting management role he'll be out on the floor telling you what to do.
If it's that then contact your branch for advice.
Some branches have a policy where reps who become acting managers have to resign their position,some branches don't.
At the end of the day if the office isn't comfortable with his position whether it's Dom Support or Acting Manager they can always remove him.

What duties is he performing that are not compatible with his position as union rep?

It's a bit like saying you can't be a workplace coach and a rep.
