Indoor pick prior to revision

We are due to go 'live' on 22nd July, but wondered how other DO's picked the indoor duties. We will have 65 FT AND 17 PT with 60 duties to pick from not including floats and reserves.There are 12 pt duties, so first 48 on seniority get picks. The split in the office is 75/25 FT/PT.
Full timers at 49 plus are kicking off about unfair seniority with 12 PT duties picking ahead of them, but can't see how you are going to preserve the 75/25 ratio otherwise and you can't cover full time duties with part timers to that extent.

Concerning the indoor element,the suggestion is that as the portering is the least liked of all jobs, that they are going to be put next to a duty so that people know that is on it, but the rest of the indoor work the DOM wants to arrange herself.

What have other DO's done?

The FT staff as a whole should consider themselves lucky; only 12 Pt jobs? - That is a surprise!

Unfair seniority! Yea. Of course, it all depends where the 'faults' lie.

So when you said PT, do you include 30 and 24 and other variations. The ratio in your office is probably not in line with national average...

There are actually 17 PT jobs.12 PT on an actual walk pick, the others on float or reserves. Not sure what you mean by 30 and 24, but we had 5 made up to full time and others made up to 30 hours from 20 and all these are going to be permanent contracts. Not sure what the national av was, I thought 75/25 was good under the circumstances. There is plenty of moaning about people after 48 on the seniority list, but I can't see how you can have it all.

Anyway, the next issue is the indoor duties and that's what I wanted to know how others have done that, including the portering.

Your office is kind of unique.

The old formula was 40hr (FT) and 30hr (PT) until they introduced 24 hr (PT) a few years ago. In our office the 24hr contract started in 2009...

In addition to the above, there are others (just a handful) on 3 days 24hrs, 35hours and one that works M-F hybrid (late start plus collection and locking up).

Anyways, after Revision, walks were divided into FT/PT combo except drivers, rurals, HCT, OPGS and hybrid. We now have some Part-timers of less than 1 year service with a floater duty and FT staff of more than 7/8 years as Reserves and some floaters. And contracts are now 39hr, 32hr, 27hr and 24hrs (3)

I will count 'floating' as a duty but a 'Reserve' is not a duty in my view because that is the default of someone without any fixed walk or walks.

So your office was full of FT staff with others on 20 hours - that is unusual, I think.
