Overtime when lapsing

Hi Guys ,

I am having a run in with my DOM at the moment , we had 2 walks lapsed at the weekend with only 3 hours spare from predicted traffic.
I have gone to disagreement but we had a stand off when I was telling the staff in the brief that no-one can work past the finish time , I know we cannot flex up when absorbing but the DOM insisted overtime would be paid if anyone did go over.

I have checked at area level and I am happy myself that no-one should be booking overtime but does anyone know if there are any agreements or documents stating it.

you dont have the power to do that, you can only ask that they work to their time and go home, if they want to work over and the DOM has said he will pay the OT you have no power to stop that

We lapse in our office. If I can do it in my time I'm happy. If I can't do it in my time and I'm paid ot, I'm happy. If I can't do it and I'm not paid OT, something's coming back. It's a simple enough game to play.

Whether it is two, ten or fifty walks that are lapsed makes little difference to me, the same rules apply

As a FT I disagree.

A lot of PTimers especially those on 25 hours or less need Overtime to take a decent pay packet home. If perhaps we had a limit of 39 hours total per week that might work but would be hard to police. A simple work the proper way and claim any overtime worked would have a similar impact I hope, but again its hard to police.

I think you're slightly confused or your post doesn't come across correctly.

The idea of absorbing workload is that it can be done inside working hours.
What that means is that if someone does not want to work over and feels they have enough work,at a reasonable standard to cover their contracted hours they should not lapse.

What it doesn't mean is that someone willing to work over does not lapse,It might defeat the purpose of lapsing but that is management's problem.
That's the members position.

From a rep's point of view if lapsing is being covered by overtime you would argue at the weekly resource meeting that the opportunity is clearly not there for lapsing and the duty should be covered by normal resourcing arrangements.

You do not tell the staff not to work overtime,that would be industrial action and would need a rule 13 ballot.

we are asked to lapse EVERY day now,no matter what the traffics like,i say i,ll take it ,but if it makes me late,i,ll claim ,and manager says no problem.

Lapsing works in those conditions by people not pulling the DOM up about the bullshit he talks.

If you do lapsing and your over your time do you book the o.t against your own duty or the lapsing duty?

Don't know don't lapse but its up to management I guess
