The DOM wants to sit down and discuss Summer Lapsing. Our office have never done it and too be honest I don't agree with it. We've had 2 P&L revisions now and I'm sure in the BT2010 agreement I read that all hours are utilised with P&L. Am I wrong and what could I put across as my arguement?

All the hours are utilised but only when the traffic for the model week is in. Otherwise there must be spare capacity, according to managers. There are a number of criteria to be met before lapsing should take place, such as daily meetings to ascertain what the traffic figure is. What normally happens though is they pick a number of walks and lapse them every day regardless.

No argument. They'll bring it in. All you can do is evaluate a day at a time. If you don't think you can do it in your time, then tell them so, and leave it. The only way park and loop is guaranteed to fill your time (more or less) is if you do it to the letter. When your workmates start shouldering the load and getting done early, the size and regularity of lapsing will increase.

Summer Efficiency Savings to give them their proper name were part of P&M2007 and cover weeks 10-22 which I think starts a week on Monday.
it should enable more summer annual leave.
It should be done within contracted hours.

Even after a delivery methods revision there may be opportunities for absorbtion if the model week is higher than the projected traffic but it will be down to the rep to make sure all work hours and traffic are accurately recorded.

Oh how i miss the good ol days of finishing upto 2 hours aday early and paid for D2D at the same time for no extra work,yet people were still bitchin about the job 20 year ago when we never had it so good.Now it's payback having to squeeze 9hours into 8!!

Don't understand the panic over lapsing. They can lapse over Xmas if they like but only if there is scope to do it. If I can't do anymore than my own work whatever day,month it is then I don't do it. It's not rocket science. Let the idiots that come in early, don't take breaks, don't do van checks and run round do the lapsing.

Whenever I'm instructed to take out extra as I 'obviously have the time', I merely ask which part of the work takes precedence, my own or the extra? When the boss asks why, I merely tell them I don't have time for both, so which would they prefer I bring back?

their must be criteria to meet before lapsing i mean how can you authorise ot then expect people to accept it something far wrong

Not quite the whole story but ok....

ignoring the fact that IWT,Geo Route and Bob Gibson are bonkers then what about an agreement that reduced weekly working hours during weeks 10-22 to 36 and increased them to 41 pre/ during xmas pressure or annual contracted overtime with increased meal relief of 50 mins during this period- thats an agreement I would have rather been persuaded to vote yes for.

We ended up with deliverys longer and physically more demanding and instead of thinking of the health benefits of the 3 light months a year we are flat out nearly all year and its no coincidence to me that IHRs have rocketed in my office especially in the over 40s group.Summer lapsing with a 3.5 hour delivery-maybe! but to greatly increase the delivery spans and still agree summer lapsing? useless twats
