Driving duty. Van cleaning time.

Hello all !

Should i have van cleaning time built into my 8 hour collection duty ?

Think i heard say of 15 mins at end but im not 100% on that.

years ago when you signed for a van route you were given a day and time slot for washing and cleaning vans, now I think its up to you to keep them clean and tidy in your normal duty some days it takes 5 min other days longer not to sure though. is it in the log book

I havent washed my van for years, it's the rust thats keeping it together anyway.

My fuel card has car wash on it but can't use it coz it will not go through the car wash ha

In my office, we used to get 30 mins a week to wash and vacuum the vans, but they cut that time out as a saving. Now the vans basically stay dirty.

There's supposed to be time in your duty to wash the vans.........but then they just lie to make the numbers look like they work on the computer without any basis in real life

Keeping your van clean is covered by H&S and law, your windows,number plates,lights,etc have to be visible at all times.

I think the drivers log book explains about cleaning but this task comes under the M11 and you normally find that the planners only assign the legal vehicle checks to it.
So something to raise with your reps both I/R and safety because if your van numbers plates are to dirty to read then you may be facing a fine and points if the police take an interest.

Pointing that out fell on deaf ears in my office, but I can be certain that I would be held accountable for the fine and points. As usual, RM's makes decisions, we ultimately pay the price. I just make sure the plates are readable etc. The last time a boss complained the van was dirty, I told them to cover some of my work and I'd gladly clean it.

It spends the first two paragraphs boldly asserting that all ill employees with be treated with fairness , dignity and respect etc...
Thought that would have been a given !

Words cant express how much i despise our glorious leaders sometimes...
