Picking a vacant duty question

Our DOM has put a list of duties on the vacancy board after months and months of the duties being available .. Most of them he keeps aside to train new starters. He usually puts a new starter on the duty for the six week training period and they never come off it... After complaints about this to our union rep he has put the duties up on the board as 20 hr duties... I've asked if we can pick the duties as full time and remove the indoor element from our old duty as they are all supposed to be equal, to which he replied they are part time ? My argument is , I cover 2 of these duties every week and I'm full time, the only difference being indoor element so how can they be part time ??? He couldn't answer ??? Should I be able to pick this duty full time ??? Sorry to go on but our rep never gets back to you !!!!

Does that mean 1 duty into two or just dropping the indoor element from 2 deliveries - it doesn't make them training rounds just part time.

My question is , he can still have a 20 hour vacancy if he takes the indoor element from the duty I'd vacate ????

My question would be where did the other 20 hrs go?

Right from the get go I've always assumed it was on a revision and the hours just aren't there - you more than anyone would understand how these hours slip below the horizon when the planners get their hooks in. One of the first things about the revision was the agreed hours for the office and if there was no justification for the indoor element it disappeared. You're a switched on rep but there are those out there who would find it impossible to justify hours under scrutiny. TBH I don't think I've ever been in an environment running so close to the bone..............any more hours out and it will be impossible to run. We have recruited but a lot just don't stay because of the short contracts.

Because I want one lol. There is no way a full timer can change duties now. What's the point of seniority ? What's it worth ? All the duties that come available have the indoor work taken off the hours saved and if they ever go up for grabs they are 20 hours ! My arguement is if you have "former" full time walks why can't we pick them and advertise your then vacant duty as 20 hours ? It just seems like too much hassle for him. So we stick on the same duty for as long as we're in the job ?

TBH it sounds like they are whittling down your hours gradually rather than having a clean sweep. In my office long before the revisions began no full time contracts were issued probably for more than 5 years in fact longer because 7 years ago they were buying down hours.

Vacant duties are rarely advertised in my office. The boss just likes to issue them to his mates. Which we think will be happening again soon.
