union meeting on pay.

local D.O.s in our area have been told about this meeting at a local boozer on tuesday. the main topic is pay, then b/h, h&s, and any issues people have in their own office. i must say its come as no surprise to me that everyone i asked said they were'nt in the least bit interested and would not be going. the 2010 bt ''deal of the century'' was the last straw and the union could f*** right off were in one of the comments i heard. even the reps not going.,,,,,i think this will be the start of the ''water testing'' by the union to see if they will get a yes vote.,,,,followed by the usual brainwash roadshows. ''i told you so'' springs to mind. you have been warned.

Some valid points and frustrations i share, but take away the union over the last ten years and be honest where would we be now Dave? In a much worse situation mate no doubt

totally agree al mate. but i cant help feeling that the union has pissed on its chips this time. especially after the last fiasco was seen as a good deal.

I think it was described as a leeetle bit more than good, if my memory serves me correctly it was described as ......... THE DEAL OF TH...... no,no - I can't bring myself to say it - it's too comical.

well according to dingo we are supposed to be getting a 4 page letter off the union this week or next. alledgedly they want a no strings 1 or 2 year deal. they want it at above inflation rate, which was 3.2% in march. he adds obviously, rm want strings attached... knowing them it'll be ropes.

At the end of the day members up and down the UK will get their chance to have a workplace consultation ballot on whether they support the unions fight against privitisation, the boycot and the union postion on opposing end to end competition and on pay , a further attack on pensions and the workplace issues. This ballot will be done a work place by workplace , each office will have their own set of numbers so the union will know who has had meetings and who is supporting the union and Whoi is not. ELS the independent balloting company will count the ballot papers.

Now there have bed meetings this week. The PEC also agreed 3 documents one on workplace issues including pay , another on the boycot and the other with regards to Royal Mail wanting to start the 60 day process on pension changes. There is likely to be a number of emergency motions submitted to the one day Royal Mail conference even thou it is a letters conference rather than a postal group conference.

The ballot will be in late may which will mean some Branch's better get out and meet the members cause there will be no hiding place when each office results will be known.

And if they don't? What sanctions will be taken? HQ already know which Branchs don't perform, don't recruit and don't interact with its membership and have done nothing about it for years - so what exactly are they going to do about it?

Dvbuk looking on a positive is that the results will finally demonstrate whether some branch"s are a shambles and hopefully then can be questioned and reorganised.

I would have thought that the state the CWU is in was a perfect example of which branchs are simply not performing and haven't been for years - and as for hopefully being questioned and reorganised One of the problems is the FT/PT ratio and the fact that there are many employees and particularly part time who are NOT members of the union.
