Change of Duty?

Hi there people!

I have been working for Royal mail for almost a year and wanted to clarify something - if anyone could give a definitive answer I would be hugely grateful!

I wanted to know if there is any set time frame for a notice of change of duty - basically I was told upon finishing today that I would be working a different round tomorrow - this is not a major issue but the start time is earlier ( all be it only slight, but enough to mess my personal morning time frame up! ) I have also never been formerly trained on the particular round ( I have done the round maybe a handful of times - and also walked it with someone whilst we had 'severe' weather and were unable to take the vans out!) I have expressed my concern that I don't know the round fully as I understand that as it states in my contract I may be required to undertake other duties that they consider me capable and competent to perform! This may seem trivial but this to me is just about the straw that breaks the camels back, I wouldn't mind if a little notice was given and if I was actually asked rather than told at the 11th hour! I was just wondering if I could go in tomorrow with a bit of valid ammunition to express my dissatisfaction as i can find no where in my contract where it says we can change what your doing and when at the drop of a hat.

In my office, they can (and do) change your content without any notice, they just come up and say stop that, you're now doing this. There is little point arguing. They cannot change your hours of attendance. If you can't finish, especially due to lack of training/experience, inform them before you go out. Prepare to be moaned at.

The Pay & Mod Agreement states that.

This is not about not knowing what you are going to be doing from one day to the next.
I believe that if you are not a reserve/duty cover, then you are entitled to two weeks notice.

Most likely a reserve and if so you can be moved multiple amount of times a day between different rounds with zero training previously for the rounds. The same is true for signed duty holders, they can be moved "as directed". (unless someone can show me something differently about duty holders).

Start time changes are a different matter entirely. That cannot be moved or changed at a moments notice. I would concentrate on that grevience.

Always amazes me how long they engage you in their moaning and pleading. Just notify them that the longer they moan more and more letters are getting left.

you can just say ok i'll do it to the best of my capabilities and thats it and inform him you will be breaking off because you don't know the round well enough. In regards to start times, unless you have signed for a duty with set start times or days off then you don't stand a chance, because I presume you are a reserve. Not sure what the case is for floaters anyone know if they are the same as reserves?

Me too. They don't seem to get the longer we are discussing it, the more they will end up covering. I work with a lad who points this out to his boss, but it never seems to sink in. He waits until they finish, then repeats his original question, how much do I leave/shall I bring it back? Delaying a decision only affects them, not us. They just want us to give in and finish it. For free more often than not. Just because they don't have the ability to actually manage a situation, or possibly because they'll struggle to get it covered as they p****d off all the staff who will refuse to help out.
