Mail Centre Reception/Enquiry Offices Selling Stamps


An enquiry was recently received in the department from a field representative in relation to a Mail Centre reception being told that in the future they would be unable to sell stamps and highlighting the possible impact this could have on future duty structures.


The department immediately contacted the business to establish what the position was in this regard. We have now received a response from the business informing us that they plan to undertake a review across the Mail Centre network in regard to the sale of stamps due to the following issues:



A lack of physical security in many of the sites;
Limited financial controls for the recording of the revenue and control of associated stamp stocks;
Non-standard enquiry office facilities leading to an inconsistent customer experience; and
Concerns around compliance to recent legislation associated with the acceptance of prohibited and dangerous goods.


The CWU have been invited to participate in the review and the department has nominated Kye Dudd, PEC member, to represent us in the review activity. At this stage it is anticipated that the review will take place during April to June of 2013, with any changes that are identified being deployed in July to September 2013.


Branches and representatives are requested to submit any views or comments that they may have in regard to this issue to the department for consideration.


Please note that at this stage there has been no agreement to any changes in this regard and as such any changes should be challenged via the IR Framework.
