Dear Colleague,

Crisis Square Mile Run 2013 - A Call For Runners!

As you may recall CWU entered two teams into the Crisis Square Mile Relay in 2012 and they managed to raise just over £2,000. As it was so successful we thought we would try and put together some teams into enter this year's relay race.

The relay will take place in the early evening of Tuesday, 4th June 2013. More details about the relay can be found here: http://www.crisis.org.uk/smr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In order that we can raise money jointly we need to co-ordinate the teams from one contact point. Could I therefore ask you to email Jo Thair in my office to let her know that you would like to run as part of a team? We can enter as many teams as we like and each team comprises of 4 team members.

Now more than ever organisations such as Crisis play a crucial role in trying to find solutions to bringing down the rise in homelessness.

With the proposed introduction of the so called "bedroom tax" Crisis themselves have spoken out about the detrimental effect this will have on households which could in turn increase homelessness. A very recent press release from Crisis states:

"Plans to penalise low income families for having young adult job seekers living at home could drive up homelessness, leading housing and homelessness charities warn today.

Government proposals being voted on today (Monday) will see £800 a year cut from housing benefit paid to parents or guardians where there is a young person under 25 seeking work. Current rules make a deduction only if the young person is in employment." Date of Press Release: 11 February 2013

The race will take place in the City of London commencing and ending at the Tate Modern - each runner will run just under two miles each.
