RETURN OF THE SPAN INDICATOR
It looks like the so called planners are trying to return to using some form of span indicator ,which I have attached a the picture, although it is called the IWT MODEL WEEK PLANNING VERSION. Obviously this is unagreed tool and the span is firmly at the agreement with CWU/staff and not at the whim of a planner. I have already made HQ aware of the tool and just trying to see if anybody else has come across it.

RETURN OF THE SPAN INDICATOR
Yet again we find Royal Mail trying to bypass agreements or in this case conceal tools. It would seem that the planners are a using a tool called the IWT model week planning tool which produces a span report that they try to use for the outdoor span. Obviously, this is not the agreed process since the statement on spans has to be agreed and guess some planners don't like this. I have attached a pic for ref and just trying to see how wide this tool has got.

Re: RETURN OF THE SPAN INDICATOR
Not seen this one before, but i see on the summary page the BSI indicator has been moved so it can only be planned at 100% BSI.

Re: RETURN OF THE SPAN INDICATOR
So stranded costs is this weeks word.
Although it seems on the subject of spans the planners will come up with 4hrs to 4.15 mark by the end of the process and they presume will be maximum span time possible. My plan will then to show them the document that confirms that 10% increase in mail means 8% indoors and 1.8% outdoors, so if your model week data you could then workout what percentage your mail goes up or down from this base line, for example if the maximum traffic increase was 30% above base then there span would need to reduce by 6%, sure the planners will try to disagree with this.

Who cares anymore,
RM do as they wish, the CWU comes out against it,
talks ensue,
then RM & CWU come out with a joint statement backing RM's original position....
resistance is futile

Re: RETURN OF THE SPAN INDICATOR
Duty Builder Update
Initially Royal Mail informed Reps that the indoor workload had to be planned for at a performance level of 100 BSI to optimise the delivery span.
This was dealt with via a Joint Statement. Now we are told we have to plan the indoor at 100 BSI to avoid stranded costs. This is where an indoor performance has been agreed at less than 100 and Royal Mail still insist on planning the duty structure (AWD) at 100.
They then want to cover the remaining workload generated by your agreed performance, in
overtime and/or temporary duties etc. Their reason for this is based on an assumption that at
some stage in the future the office will reach 100 BSI performance and once this happens duties will be waiting for the second wave arrival with no work. The resulting unoccupied time is called stranded costs.
Delivery Reps need to be aware that there is nothing in the national agreement and
subsequent Joint Statements that say you have to plan on this basis or agree to 100 BSI.
If units want the total amount of indoor workload generated by your agreed performance level scheduled in the duty structure to support their desired attendance patterns, there is nothing in the national agreement that says this cannot be done.
If any Reps are encountering this problem and cannot come to an acceptable agreement locally they should use the IR Framework before continuing with the 6 phase process

Re: RETURN OF THE SPAN INDICATOR
I doubt if most reps understand the tools the planner is openly using without trying to understand the tools he is concealing.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: RETURN OF THE SPAN INDICATOR
on similar lines our line manager came back from a 1 day course this week,,,,amd told us he has been given whole new figures for primary sorting of letter,,,large letters and parcels.
the figure he quoted on letters was 34 a min,,,,,,,,jeeees.
the alien on men in black 2 can do that,,,dont think i could.
he then told us royal mails new way of indoor working/flow is we can use the back of the backless fitting for primary sorting,,,,,this then just became a bit a joke between us,,,,,u remove them bungies of the back and have ppl sorting from both sides and letters will be gliding everywere....also were does the fella on the back keep his mail...there is no desk......surely this has to be some kind of wnd up....
anyway our rep said leave it for now,,,nothings been agreed.

Re: RETURN OF THE SPAN INDICATOR
I believe 34 items a minute is for sequenced mail, prepared into a frame. As we are clearly quicker with sequenced, than walksorted (25 items a min).

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
