CWU activists gathered outside postal services regulator Ofcom's head office in London this morning (Tuesday) with this simple message: "Defend the Universal Service".
As the first of several Ofcom regional meetings around the regulator's draft annual 2013/14 plan, similar events are also scheduled for Wales and Scotland tomorrow, followed by a Northern Ireland meeting on the 6th February.
London regional secretary Jim Kirwan highlighted the dangers to the USO of any reduction in the six-day-a-week service and NEC member Carl Maden agreed: "A loss of one day would mean the loss of thousands of jobs and irreparable damage to the quality of service to the public."
