If private companies can pick the best bits of the network, the obligation to deliver to all is undermined. That's why we're considering action.

The public aren't even aware of this and they need to know the truth. DSA is bang out of order.
You can just see the chairman of Tesco's saying,
"Yeah OK Iceland, you can dump your own products on us that are cheaper than our own brands and we'll put them at the front of the shelves for you, so they sell better than ours, which will now be at the back of the shelf."
Would never happen! So what idiot in their right mind would consider DSA as a sound business idea?
Mr. Leighton may be? Just remind me, where are Leeds United in the football league these days...mmmm.
Our superiors know better do they. I'd love my mate Sir Alan Sugar to become chair and put the meetings on TV. Take great pleasure in him saying to ALL those who have been complicit in f%*k^*g up this company/ business/ service (as it was and should be),
"YOUR FIRED AND YOU ARE FIRED AS WELL!" (Real £ savings there then)
Thank God we don't make beer, the country would be sober through out coz they'd be selling cheap nasty 0.5% rubbish ahead of their own, why?
Coz Europe told our government, who told RM, you have to do this and the regulator will watch you.
Down with ALL EU loving puppets.
THEY HAVE KILLED THIS JOB AND THE SERVICE IT ONCE GAVE!!!
YES I AM DOWN RIGHT ANGRY ABOUT IT TOO!!!!!

Spot on Sharkeyes. By coincidence I was thinking about a supermarket analogy myself to explain the sheer idiocy of DSA .No wonder UKMail are annoyed with TNT because if the public and Parliament cotton
on to what is going on their golden goose will be well and truly cooked. The CWU must avoid using jargon when getting their message across and use terms and concepts that the public can understand
quickly and easily.
Boycott DSA. !!! Boycott Leech Mail !!!

yeah i read the comments too, and it beggars belief what some people think.
comments such as i dont use RM/Post letters anymore ,so obviously nobody else does just make you realise how self centred some people are. even the small fact that so many people miss - JOBS. surely it is good to have an industry that can supply decent, reasonably well paid jobs ??

Re: Royal Mail staff are trying to save the universal post
I'm afraid that most people are self centred and don't see the long term consequences of things like this.
What did the public do when the Tories privatized everything? They joined in with enthusiasm and bought shares in the companies, then sold them on quickly for a small profit.
Now they are all moaning because gas, electric, water, bus and train travel etc. is so expensive.
You reap what you sow I'm afraid and it will be the same when RM is privatized.
Feel really sorry for all you posties still working, I got out last year when my office had it's revision.

Point taken cyclemech!!! Their views are very polarised, but as ,I presume ,people of education they actually have a very poor grasp of facts regarding the industry in general, regardless whether they
are proponents or opponents of the argument. My experience of the DSA issue ,like you I'm now exRM,garnered over 7 or 8 years of interest and debate,is that the public, journalists and many of our
politicians are ignorant of many of the facts they need to come to a rational decision. To be fair to ,I also found many of my former colleagues to be almost as poorly informed.
During periods of industrial upheaval and strikes it was evident to me that the CWU struggled to produce coherent and industry jargon free statements and interviews such that their messages were oft lost
on the general public whom I still feel support the postie and the service.
The beauty of Roy Mayall's articles is that they are written in a style that is easy to follow and understand , why the CWU don't make more of his skills I don't know because he could certainly show them
a trick or two when it comes to publicising a cause by utilising the media.

Agree totally. Every time Big Billy does an interview especially on national TV he comes across as a overweight, stuttering and sweating not so bright. We need someone who is media savvy to put our message and arguments across to the public.

Re: Royal Mail staff are trying to save the universal post
You can't be two things.
You can't be a DSA company and a delivery company.
Ofcom should be aware of that.
If you allow a company to be both they can go to a big poster like British Gas and promise to deliver to every door in the country then deliberately dump the loss making hard to reach places on to a delivery competitor(Royal Mail) and keep the profitable delivery work for themselves.
In any other industry that kind of deliberate anti-competitive behaviour would bring you fines and legal action and all kinds of trouble from the regulator.
Meanwhile Ofcom sits and plays with itself and promises to maybe possibly get involved if it gets messy.
By then of course it will be too late.
