Re: Stage 1 Attendance Procedure
Hi Doc,
This all sounds a bit confusing mate, your stage one interview was three months after the absence that triggered it?
Then they waited another 3 months before issuing it?
If the absences are correct then your rep should get the stage warning backdated to within a couple of weeks of the last absence (may).
This has happend a few times in my office recently due to the new psp system and stage warnings getting lost, we have got them all backdated.
Hope this helps.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Could it be that they are having a purge before the new attendance procedure comes into being?

Re: Stage 1 Attendance Procedure
i recently recieved a stage 1, i needed an operation to repair a condition in my nose and was off work for 2 weeks in november 2011. 11 and a half months later i have been struggling with my right foot a condition called planta fasciitis which affects my heel and the sole of the foot which has been agony at times for this i was off work for 1 week where i know other people to be off work for 6 months with this condition, at the interview i said it has been caused by the footwear i have to wear, ie the cat trainers which have no support. manager says your union agreed the issuing of all stages and they had to issue a stage 1. ps my last sick leave before the operation was 5 days off august 2010 with a virus. i was told by union rep no point appealing as thats the way it is these days best to just accept it and move on.

There's no point in appealing because there's no right of appeal.philip spiby wrote: i was told by union rep no point appealing as thats the way it is these days best to just accept it and move on.

Re: Stage 1 Attendance Procedure
Register a grievance on the basis of the time taken from period of sickness to actual issuing of the stage. Your rep should have had the discussion at the stage 1 and then told you to raise the grievance straight after issue. irrespective of line manager saying no appeal, you're not appealing the award but the time taken and looking at back dating the stage.

How is he out of time?whisperstar24 wrote:as stated by others raise your grievance on the basis that the manager has broken procedure .With ref to hr guidance ,the manager is out of time with issueing the stage 1.Your rep should quote the attached information and push for the stage 1 to be revoked.
He had one absence Nov 2011 and a second absence Nov 2012. (11 1/2 months later)He has now triggered a stage warning.
Whether it is appropriate to give that warning is a different issue but where you get "the manager has broken procedure" from I don't know.

I think Clash thought you were replying to the other poster.whisperstar24 wrote: he did not have a second period of sickness,it was the sickness in may that triggered a stage warning .The stage warning interview did not happen until after 3 months and the issue was not for another 6 months from the trigger. Therefore the manager is out of time in issueing the warning according to hr guidance
As for the RMAP Clarifications doc,it's actually an internal HR target document for HR people to follow when triggering stages, not an attendance procedure document for issuing stages and as such it won't hold up to much scrutiny.
It can and has been used effectively against ill informed line managers though.
