‘First Steps’ Course for CWU Women
18th – 20th January 2013

The Equal Opportunities Department are pleased to confirm that we are in the process of organising a course for NEW women activists. We recognise that the world of union activism can be daunting, particularly if you are new to it and would like to inspire women and make them confident enough to deal with the many challenges that women face. The course will help to provide a level playing field for women who are new to Union activism.

The course will be held from 18th-20th January 2013 at the Ramada Hotel and Suites Coventry City Centre, The Butts, Earlsdon, Coventry CV1 3GG. The geography has been deliberately chosen to maximise the opportunity of NEW CWU representatives attending. Equally, if there are any lay women members who are thinking of getting involved in the CWU, this course will also be suitable for them.

The Equal Opportunities Department will cover all reasonable financial costs, including loss of earnings and travel expenses.

Some of the areas that will be covered during the course will include:

Assertiveness Skills
An overview of Industrial Relations
How to submit a motion (Conference, Branch AGM)
How to prepare and deliver a speech
Plus many other important skills…
