removed from round, singled out

Hi I would like advice as i feel im being victimized, I have been delivering the same round for 3 1/2 years and my round has recently been advertised for employees to apply for as I have not signed for it. This round will go to whoever is senior out of the applicants which is fine by me but my job is the only one advertised. I know that I personally have been doing my round longer than 30% of the office has been on theirs but mine is the only job on the board. I have spoken to my union rep and he said it was unfair and you cant single out one job or person out and that somebody had been on a round recently for 18 months and his line manager said he couldnt be moved after that length of time,I am happy for resigning to happen if everyone gets treated the same but when im happy and my customers are and my job has been put up solely I cant help but feel singled out. The head of my office who I approached on the floor said its unreasonable and it needs reviewing so dont worry it will come off the board and then next thing a week later he has said he is undecided, I would like to know if I have a point and can one person and one job be advertised after 3 1/2 years without the rest of the office? any advice much appreciated.

I have a feeling this could be the job of a fellow postie or posties. Someone more senior might have their eyes on the round that you are currently doing or some might take a view that you should not have the said round because you are junior, so they might even use a trojan horse...

I have had it happen but not 3.5yrs like you - about 18 months stretch but 3 years on and off. To make it look legit, 2 jobs were advertised: one of them did not really get that much response - I applied for both. But mine was given to a senior that had been a reserve/floater.

I can understand that being a floater/reserve when you have been in the company for about 10 years is not that good. However, some posties that are full-time and senior are not really messed about as a reserve - they tend to cover the easier rounds anyway, and they often pick and choose days off and even become spares when overstaffed.

To cut a long story short, the person that got the job is now back as he was - something which he had got used. Some posties are not very good at being responsible or accountable for their own rounds! I lost the round and now a proper reserve despite not being the most junior - we have at least 2 part-timers who have had their training but have remained on the same rounds for 2 years - hey ho!

I have since learned lots of rounds and raking it in on OT.

They wont review the entire office as that would cause too much upheaval and the have hand picked my job out of 120 rounds, the line manager who is doing the job advert enjoys broadcasting to anybody who may want to apply for my job vocally infront of me and my section who are all on my side telling me to speak up and they are taking the p**s out of me, since when should managers start enticing applicants especially infront of somebody who is clearly upset with being moved unjustified?

I have asked to see the 'signed for jobs' paperwork so I can see mine is the only job unsigned, obviously that has been refused because its all fiction and favouritism. I would like to be heard with or without the union and can I make a singled out/ victimisation complaint with anybody who may listen? even citizens advice maybe?

I been in constant contact with the union and if my case is dropped I will have lost all faith in them and cant justify being part of them, My rep has said it cant be done and your job cant be singled out especially when people have kept there job for my same reason with less time on there job, I cant see how this is fair or how do I persue this if the union and management decide to sweep it under the carpet?

I have never cut off even though my round is one of the largest in the office, I enjoy the stabilty of my knowing my day off and my knowing what il be doing, By 'my section' I mean rural, now everybody is in vans but before the change come in we were the van jobs in the sticks, My job isnt a pleasure its hard work but I know it well and me and the area have a decent relationship which is better than pillar to post which is where I may be heading!

If there are other jobs unsigned for then they should go up as well,remind your rep about the way forward agreement,and to get the area rep involved...

I think you would probably welcome a resign were the whole office is repicked but just to pick you out is unfair have you considered asking why in particular is it your walk gthere may be a reason
If it seems unjust you must follow the correct formal procedure depending on the strength of your union this could be astraight forward process discuss with lino first and get a reason

I'm in your area and I would reccomend going here and call Colin Sayles http://www.glosamal.co.uk/reps.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, he is the area rep. I've always found him a great help, I'm surprised Dave White has not put a stop to it. In my office we advertise all vacant duties in one go, ask to see the list of duties and the person assigned to that duty.

I can't beleive that Cheltenham have only one vacant duty, but as I say call Colin and see what he says.
