First off i have been a postie for nearly 14 years with no stage warnings for quite a few years.
I am one of those people who are waiting on privatisation so as to be hopeful of some kind of payoff and redundancy as i now want to try and get out of this job and enjoy life before the royal mail sees fit to put me in a wheelchair.The consencus seems to be that 2014 is a realistic time for a royal mail buy out. .I am prepared and need to work up until the end of next year after that i have wondered about the option of taking a career break.What is the likelyhood that i would be granted one end of next year and where would i stand with regards redundancy.I would like to know where i would stand and what ramifications it might have on me.Could they make some excuse to get shot of me?

There doesn't seem to be many if any redundancies in DO's.
IHR seems to be the preferred get out clause for some.

Apologies for resurrecting a rather old thread but I'm looking into the possibility of applying for a career break and I'm after a bit of up to date info..
Firstly, has anyone recently managed to obtain one of these mythical application forms that you apparently need? If so where from?
Second, is the link to the pdf in POSTMANS post still the most up to date agreement on career break entitlements?
Finally reading through the pdf there is one crucial Q&A that doesn't appear to make any sense, it seems to contradict itself unless I'm being a bit thick??...
QUESTION- Can I return to my Division or Business unit in Royal Mail?
ANSWER - No, the career break only guarantees the right of return to your former Division or Business unit.
