Hello, im new here so be kind.
Just wondering what are u meant to do if u need the toilet while u are out and if it means u have to drive out of your way and then mayb cut off, is that ok?

Yes - Its covered probably by the Human Rights convention and various Health and Safety Laws.

Basically all workplaces have to provide toilet facilities and even though we work outside Royal Mail has to provide them as well. This can be identifying official toilet stops or instructing you to return to the office if none are available.

As to driving out of your way, this would be a case of common sense so driving for 30 minutes is a non - but going off route for 5 minutes you should be okay as long as the toilet stop is an officially recognised one, or one that you have got permission to use.

Best bet is to check the walk log and if its not listed then see your manager and get them to add it.

It is far easier for van duties to divert for loo breaks than HCT users...

HCT users must ensure they comply with SSOW risk assessment of their area, even a locked up HCT can only be left with mail in it (except Specials) for 2/5/10 minutes, if you are going to be longer than that (pretty likely in a high risk area) you need to empty the HCT of all mail and take it with you.

The "Internal Bureau" can have a field day with the above when posties lock up trolleys to do loops by pouch (leaving mail in trolley unattended), cutting the job up proper and breaching mail security to try and avoid daily cut off agro from managers.

Funny you should have brought this one up cos a chap i know who works at another office told me one of his colleagues who suffers with irregular bowel problems often does number 1's and 2's behind bushes and trees on his/hers duty!
Apparently he/she has found a good use for some of their surplus d2d's too!

so has anyone got the crrect info on mobile workers and toilet breaks /meal reliefs ,ie do you have to be provided with hand washing vacilities,use of a toilet .beacause personally i dont fancy going to the toilet in some bushes .and if it means driving 10 to 20 minutes off route so be it ,where do we stand?????????

About 18 inches away from a tree to avoid splash back. Though some may need to stand back further.


Seriously, you should bring the issue up in WTL or the Daily Cuddle and have management publicly confirm that going off route or returning to the office are acceptable when there are no official rest stops on a delivery.
