Can anyone advise me regarding time limits to rehab(reduced hours, light or amended duties), after returning to work after sick absence.
A colleague of mine is returning to work after sustaining a head injury and has been informed that there may be a time limit of eight weeks,before having to return to full time hours/content of his original duty (driving,distribution).
He feels eight weeks may not be sufficient time to return to full time driving, can someone please clarify or advise.

Frankly I would be amazed if there was any upper limit as it goes against common sense (yes I do see the irony of my statement and Royal Mail).
Especially when it involves a head injury. Recovery from any accident or illness is not a linear thing, each individual recovers at different rates, and some even go backwards occasionally.
I would recommend contacting the Area H&S rep by email, and copying it to HQ and get them involved, they may be aware of any limits, but even if there isn't any they should be able to help in this individual case.

I don't think this is the first time people have posted on here about managers insisting there is a time limit on rehab.
I don't see it anywhere in the rehab agreement. And the rehab agreement gives you the opportunity to contact ATOS if the rehab plan is not going to schedule.
Obviously they don't like rehab. It costs them money. But I don't think it gives them the right to make up their own agreements.
If they can show you the 8 week rule in writing. Fine.
If not..........

According to the ill health agreement ATOS not management make the decision as to how long rehab or temporary adjusted duties lasts.
There is no set period.
Each individual case should be assessed on it's own merits.

The OHS would recommend the nature and likely duration of such modifications taking into account both the needs of the employee and the opportunities within the business to provide such modified work

we have at least one person on light duties in our office after he had an op.
He was constantly harassed by managers to pick up his job again so he made an official harassment complaint and is left alone now.
You could try the HELP Line or Listeners Line for advice
