Grievance question

Post by 1984 »

I put a grievance in against my line manager last week, after i didnt like the way i was spoken to.

I have not received any response yet.

I was told they have 5 days to respond, and if they dont, I can take it straight to a stage 2. Is this correct?

Also, does the response have to be in writing? Or can it be just a conversation between me and my manager?

Thanks.

If it is against your Manager it should go straight to a stage 2. You would be best sending a copy to his Manager.

If after putting it in you have been spoken to in a manner you are uncomfortable with raise this point at the grievance interview.

The response should be in writing.

the straight to stage 2 thing i believe is only if u have something like a singleton dom, as he cant really interview himself, if however your office is big enough to have lackey line managers then i think it is just to stage 1 as the dom of the whole office has authority over the line managers.

with regard to timescales they are rarely ever followed and will probably be ignored if u don't state them as part of your grievance, so go back and check if u stated something along the lines of' i expect a written response within 1 working week or i will consider this matter to require forwarding to a stage 2.

if you didn't have anything like that then id suggest polity reminding your dom(or your manager that the grievance is against's manager) of the time scale you expected.if that doesn't seem to work put it back in writing setting a timescale before you feel you will have to escalate it to stage 2. although they totally ignore time scales it will probably be better if you still give them a reasonable time scale, i.e i want it all done by tomorrow wont reflect well , but a working week should be more than sufficient.

had grievance uphelp against previous dom. RM sat on it for weeks hoping I would go away. but you have to keep badgering unfortunately. then sent email to higher up food chain worded " I was told when I took out grievance it was a waste of time, seems so as nothinfg is getting done". Sector manager dealing with it phoned to apologise for delay and the findings in my hand by SD next day. keep at them
