Data Gathering – Traffic Reporting and Large Letters and Packets Sampling Activity (Scott Grant)

Branches will be aware that LTB 162/12 issued on the 9th March 2012 advised members and representatives of our policy of non co-operation in the data gathering initiative the business wished to employ using the services of Scott Grant Ltd without the formal involvement of the CWU.

The business using Scott Grant for such activity did and still does highlight the inconsistencies of management’s approach to processing revision activity in respect of National Data Bank Planning Values, budgets, performance expectations etc. and their commitment to a new relationship based on the full involvement of the union.

We have now received notification from the business of some further activity they will be undertaking. This activity will involve CWU members providing physical support in assisting in sampling and counting of large letter/packet streams and having to work alongside the contractors the business have employed to undertake this exercise.

The list of Mail Centres and projected dates, period of visits and number of OPG’s/CWU grades that will be required to undertake this is attached as an annex to this LTB for your information.

This activity is un-agreed and it is unfortunate that the business is continuing to adopt an attitude which totally conflicts with Royal Mail’s commitment to improve relationships with the CWU.

I have once again written to the business inviting them to engage with the CWU in developing a joint approach to this and future activity, but have yet to receive a response.

Until these issues have been resolved the policy of the CWU remains one of non co-operation in this activity and members who are asked to participate should respectfully decline to do so.

Branches and representatives are requested to ensure that our members are made aware of the Union’s policy in regard to the data gathering exercise and that the department’s thanks is extended to them for their continued support.
