Broken Service & Annual Leave rights
Hi there folks - I rejoined Royal Mail as a postman again after 20 years service, and 2 years out completely. I am certain that under various agreements - Lastly " The Way Forward" agreement - that your previous service was counted towards your annual leave ??? This has been ok for a few years, as it was okay'd by someone with a bit of experience in Personnel, but now with the changes to the computer system that allocates A/L - I have been told that I dont get my entitlement - surely this is wrong ? Personnel dont seem to care, and are refusing to do anything to change it and management are doing very little to chase it. Do I have a case ? Thanks guys.

Yes the way forward allows for the addition of broken service to determine annual leave entitlement.
All periods of service on a temporary or permanent contract (with periods of casual service included only if they run continuously into a temporary or permanent contract), except for those on unpaid leave, SPPR, or with HM Forces exceeding 15 days, will count towards calculating leave due. Previous periods of PO service may be counted for this purpose.

It's not seniority it's holiday entitlement due to length of service.bringon4dayweeks wrote:a bloke in our office joined parcelforce then cashco and kept his seniority but what happens if you join tesco then come back ?
Seniority is lost the minute you leave RMG other than in very exceptional circumstances.

Yes you do have a case but Royal Mail will try to make it as difficult as possible to prevent you from getting your entitlement. Best thing to do is to email justsayit@royalmail.com explaining the situation and hopefully you'll get what you are owed.Jacko1 wrote:Hi there folks - I rejoined Royal Mail as a postman again after 20 years service, and 2 years out completely. Yes but do not be surprised if you have to fight for it.sean2361 wrote:is it true that i can clame more annual leave i left for 6 years after 17 years service then came back i have been back 2 years now thank you.
Some managers are unaware of it and some are just knobs, some reps are also unaware that the way forward allows for the addition of broken service but for the interests of clarification for anybody reading this it does not apply to seniority...only annual leave calculation.
That's the most common misunderstanding.
